A festival dedicated to childhood featuring workshops, stories, music, and performances in Calenzano
Immaginaria - Children's Festival is the event that transforms Calenzano, located at the gates of Florence in the Florentine Plain, into a vast space dedicated to childhood every spring. Promoted by the Municipality of Calenzano, the festival offers two days packed with workshops, readings, music, games, and performances built around a simple and precious idea: giving children the time and tools to imagine.
The activities are spread across three venues that become the beating heart of the event: the Officina CiviCa on Via Petrarca, the CiviCa Library with its rooms dedicated to the youngest, and the evocative Historical Figurine Museum, housed in the medieval village of Calenzano Alto.
The program is designed to accompany children through every age group: from shadow theater workshops for older children to animated readings for toddlers, as well as music for families with infants, astronomy quizzes, juggling, and circus arts. Each activity is curated by cultural associations, specialized booksellers, artists, and local volunteers, in a network that weaves together schools, libraries, museums, and local associations.
All Immaginaria offerings are free: in recent editions, access has been subject to mandatory reservation at the Municipal Culture Office to ensure every child has a serene and well-supported experience. During the activities, there is no shortage of snacks, provided by local partners.
Immaginaria is much more than a calendar of events: it is the sign of a community, that of Calenzano and the Metropolitan City of Florence, that chooses to put children at the center of its cultural life. In a territory of Tuscany known for its cultural vibrancy, the festival represents an eagerly awaited appointment for families, teachers, and educators, capable of combining fun, growth, and discovery in a welcoming and familiar atmosphere.
The third edition of Immaginaria brought two days dedicated to childhood to Calenzano on April 2 and 3, 2026. The festival confirmed its formula: free activities spread across multiple venues, from creative workshops to animated readings, from music for toddlers to scientific and circus proposals. An edition designed to accompany every age group, from newborns to teenagers, with the support of local associations and volunteers and snacks offered by Unicoop Firenze.
All activities are free with mandatory reservation; presence of an accompanying adult is required.
