Fine art photography in Lanciano, featuring exhibitions, talks, and encounters with master photographers
Immagina – International Photography Festival is one of the most distinctive cultural events in Lanciano, in the province of Chieti, in the heart of the Frentano area of Abruzzo. Established in 2012 and now boasting over ten editions, the festival is conceived and promoted by the Social Photography Street 6212 Association, presided over by Lanciano-born photographer Roberto Colacioppo, the heart and artistic director of the event.
The main venue is the evocative Polo Museale Santo Spirito, located within the former convent complex in Lanciano's historic center. For several days, the halls host photographic exhibitions, while the evenings come alive with talks: public meetings where authors, photojournalists, and photo editors share their work and their perspective on the world. The festival pays special attention to documentary and humanistic photography, providing space for social reportage, border stories, and long-term projects.
A central moment of every edition is the presentation of the SPS6212 Golden Pin, a lifetime achievement award given to great names in Italian and international photography. Over the years, the award has celebrated masters of the lens and renowned photojournalists, often in memory of late authors, making the festival a point of reference for enthusiasts and professionals in the sector throughout Abruzzo and beyond.
Immagina is more than just an exhibition: the program includes meetings with schools, educational workshops, photography book presentations, and projects created with local students, from the Department of Architecture in Pescara to the high schools of Lanciano. The festival is part of the Culture Month calendar promoted by the Municipality of Lanciano, which weaves together theater, music, literature, and visual arts between spring and early summer.
For those who love photography, Immagina is an opportunity to see high-quality exhibitions live and listen to the voices of established authors in an intimate and authentic setting. For those visiting Abruzzo, it is also an excellent excuse to discover Lanciano, a Frentano city of art known for its Corso Trento e Trieste, its historic bridges, and the Eucharistic Miracle.
The 14th edition of Immagina was held from May 20 to 24, 2026, at the Polo Museale Santo Spirito in Lanciano, as part of the Municipality's Culture Month. The event, curated by the Social Photography Street 6212 Association, opened on May 20 with photographer Stefano Schirato and his humanistic work on challenging realities. On May 21, Daniele Robotti presented "Fuori-Dentro," a project on the relationship between prison and the outside world; May 22 featured filmmaker Ruggiero Torre. On May 23, the SPS6212 Golden Pin for lifetime achievement, in memory of Ivo Saglietti, was awarded to photojournalist Uliano Lucas. The closing on May 24 included the presentation of the project "Il Kintsugi – sulla mia pelle" by Roberto Colacioppo, as well as meetings with schools and students from the Department of Architecture in Pescara.
Lanciano can be reached by car via the A14 motorway (Val di Sangro or Lanciano-Val di Sangro exits) and by train with bus connections from the station. The Polo Museale Santo Spirito is located in the historic center and is accessible on foot.
