An evening beneath the illuminated Sassongher

In the heart of the Alta Badia Dolomites, the village of Corvara in Badia (Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Trentino-Alto Adige) dedicates an evening each summer to its quintessential landmark: Mount Sassongher. Once a year, its imposing silhouette is honored with a spectacular evening illumination, a long-standing tradition deeply felt by the Ladin community of Val Badia.

The evening, known in Ladin as Ilominaziun dl Sassongher, begins with a parade by the Colfosco-Corvara brass band through the pedestrian center: musicians in elegant traditional costumes march along Str. Col Alt, capturing the attention of residents and guests alike. The parade is followed by a concert featuring a repertoire that alternates between folk melodies and modern pieces.

The mountain that lights up

As the band plays, the majestic Sassongher frames the entire evening: the peak is illuminated for the occasion by members of the Aiüt Alpin Alta Badia Mountain Rescue team and the floodlights of the Corvara Fire Brigade. It is a symbolic gesture that has always linked the inhabitants to their mountain, transforming the sky above Corvara into a unique natural spectacle.

A free event in the center of Corvara

The event takes place in the pedestrian zone and the pavilion of Corvara, along Str. Col Alt, and is free to attend. In case of bad weather, the band concert will still be held in the Corvara events hall, while the illumination of the Sassongher will be postponed. It is the perfect opportunity to discover Ladin culture and the musical traditions of Alta Badia during a summer vacation in Val Badia.
