A celebration of the forest and the wood supply chain in the heart of Casentino
Among the lush green mountains of Casentino, in the province of Arezzo, the town of Bibbiena hosts Il Bosco in Festa, an event that places the forest—the true identity of this land—at the center stage. Promoted by Coldiretti Arezzo in collaboration with the Municipality of Bibbiena, the event celebrates the forest's stewards and the Made in Italy wood supply chain, showcasing the Casentino Forests as a vital environmental, cultural, and economic resource.
Il Bosco in Festa is more than just a festival; it is a journey that weaves together environmental education, scientific outreach, and conviviality. The program alternates between educational workshops for schools—designed as part of a project on sustainable development and food education—and guided walks, itinerant conferences, pomological exhibitions, and festive moments featuring local farm-to-table products from Campagna Amica.
The goal is to propose a new way of discussing forests and Italian timber, engaging both adults and children in an experience that traces the history of charcoal burners all the way to today's green economy.
The core of the event is the itinerant walk-conference that traverses the local woods: a unique opportunity to discover the daily work of forest rangers, coppice management techniques, fire prevention, and the fight against invasive species. There are also plenty of family-friendly activities, such as tree planting and tree climbing demonstrations.
With its elegant historic center and proximity to the Casentino Forests National Park, Bibbiena is the main hub of the valley and the ideal setting for an event that makes the forest its protagonist. Visiting Il Bosco in Festa is also a chance to discover an authentic corner of Tuscany, away from the beaten path, where rural culture and respect for nature remain a living heritage.
The third edition of Il Bosco in Festa, originally scheduled for November 28-29, 2025, and postponed as a sign of respect for the Casentino community, was held in Bibbiena on March 20-21, 2026, organized by Coldiretti Arezzo with the Municipality and numerous local partners. Two intense days dedicated to the value of the Casentino woods and the Italian wood supply chain.
The edition focused on environmental education for the youth, the itinerant walk-conference through the woods, and an afternoon of celebration with the planting of ancient fruit trees, in a weekend that combined scientific outreach, sustainability, and rural conviviality.
The first day was dedicated to educational workshops for children and students, as part of the project on sustainable development and food education. Theme of the edition: "From urban green to forest management", to introduce younger generations to environmental sustainability and the value of forest resources.
The heart of the event: a participatory walk and itinerant conference titled "The roots of the forest: from the history of charcoal burners to the green economy".
Throughout the days, there were also demonstrations of woodworking and tree climbing, as well as the conclusion of the amateur fruit and olive growing course.
Bibbiena is located in the Casentino valley, in the province of Arezzo. By car, it can be reached via the SR71 road or by taking the Arezzo exit on the A1 motorway and continuing towards the Casentino valley. By train, it is served by the Ferrovia Casentinese (TFT) line connecting Arezzo to Stia, with a stop in Bibbiena.
The event takes place over several days; the program, including times for workshops, walks, and meetings, is published by Coldiretti Arezzo and the Municipality of Bibbiena in the weeks leading up to the event.
For the itinerant walk-conference in the woods, trekking shoes and comfortable, season-appropriate clothing are recommended. Many activities are designed for families and children.
