The vintage mountain bike cycling event through the woods of Caprese Michelangelo
La Rampistorica is a non-competitive cycling event that takes place in Caprese Michelangelo, a small town in the Province of Arezzo nestled in the Tuscan Valtiberina, the same village that gave birth to Michelangelo Buonarroti. The event is dedicated to vintage mountain bikes and celebrates a slow and mindful form of cycling: no stopwatches, no rankings, just the pleasure of riding along the trails and gravel roads of the Tuscan Apennines.
Participation is reserved for those who own a historic mountain bike, built before 2006, and those wearing vintage or retro-inspired clothing. This is the spirit of the event: to rediscover the authentic taste of the first MTBs, back when the discipline was in its infancy, and to turn the ride into an affectionate tribute to an era of off-road cycling.
The course winds for about 32-35 kilometers with an elevation gain of over 1200 meters, crossing the characteristic chestnut woods that cover the hills around Caprese Michelangelo. Along the way, ancient family-owned drying barns, once used to dry chestnuts and now restored, become refreshment and rest stops where you can catch your breath and taste local products. The route is designed to highlight the landscape, slow cycle tourism, and the camaraderie between participants.
La Rampistorica is much more than a sporting event: it is an opportunity to discover the Valtiberina and its natural and cultural heritage. The event, organized by Polisportiva Michelangelo ASD under the aegis of UISP, is part of the "Estate a Caprese" summer program, which weaves together cycling, art, music, and tradition in Michelangelo's hometown. For those who love two wheels, nature, and history, it is an unmissable appointment of the Arezzo summer.
The 2026 edition of La Rampistorica is scheduled for Sunday, July 5, 2026, in Caprese Michelangelo (AR). The event confirms its identity as a non-competitive cycling event reserved for mountain bikes built before 2006 and participants in vintage clothing. The route, covering approximately 32-35 kilometers with over 1200 meters of elevation gain, crosses the chestnut groves of the Arezzo hills, with stops in restored drying barns transformed into refreshment points.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including final start times and route details, will be announced by the organization in the weeks leading up to the event. Registration is handled via Polisportiva Michelangelo ASD.
