The musical twinning between Ripatransone and Norcia in the heart of the Piceno village
Il Borgo dei Suoni is the music festival born in Ripatransone, an elegant hilltop village in the province of Ascoli Piceno, in the heart of Marche. Its core is a band twinning that brings together the Corpo Bandistico Cittร di Ripatransone and the Complesso Bandistico Cittร di Norcia, two musical groups connected by a common Apennine region and a shared passion for brass and percussion music. The event highlights the band tradition as a shared cultural heritage and a practice rooted in the territory, capable of transforming the village into a large open-air soundscape.
The festival's format unfolds over two days. The first evening is dedicated to a concert at the Luigi Mercantini Theatre, an 19th-century gem in Ripatransone, where the guest band from Norcia performs a program blending band repertoire and operatic voices, with the participation of a soprano and a tenor. The second day transforms the historic center into a widespread stage: the two bands lead a joint parade through the village streets, offering citizens and visitors a moment of shared music and collective enjoyment of public space.
Il Borgo dei Suoni is part of the Ripatransone Community Hub (RCH) project, promoted by the Municipality of Ripatransone and funded under the PNRR, an initiative focused on the attractiveness of historic villages managed by the Ministry of Culture. The project aims to regenerate the village's spaces as centers for culture, training, and social participation, counteracting depopulation and strengthening the link between culture, territory, and community. In addition to the twinning, Il Borgo dei Suoni includes training activities such as advanced courses for wind and percussion instruments aimed at local musicians.
Known as the "Belvedere of Piceno" for its panoramic position between the Tronto and Menocchia valleys, Ripatransone is a village rich in history, home to the narrowest alley in Italy and a vibrant folk tradition. Its town band is an integral part of the village's identity, present in civil and religious festivals and commemorations. With Il Borgo dei Suoni, this musical heritage meets that of Norcia, a Umbrian town also marked by earthquake and the will to be reborn, in a sonic embrace that crosses the Apennines.
The first event of the musical twinning between Ripatransone and Norcia took place on January 10th and 11th, 2026 as part of the Il Borgo dei Suoni - Ripatransone Community Hub project.
All events had free admission.
