Three days of Romagnol flavors, music, and devotion in Riccione Paese
Every spring, the historic center of Riccione Paese, in the Municipality of Riccione (Province of Rimini, Emilia-Romagna), comes alive for "Io, tu e le rosole", the event that brings the famous 'cassone alle rosole' to the table, one of the most authentic specialties of Romagnol tradition. The event takes place concurrently with the celebrations of Blessed Alessio, the village's protector, blending flavors, markets, and moments of faith into one grand village festival.
Rosole are the young plants of the poppy, a wild spring herb that must be harvested fresh and tender between March and April. Their slightly bitter taste pairs perfectly with the thin dough of the 'cassone' (or 'cresciona'), cooked on the griddle like the more famous piadina. At the food stands set up in the marquee next to the new church on Viale Diaz, visitors rediscover the flavors and aromas of the past and the culture of simple, local food, to be enjoyed on-site or taken away.
In the squares and streets of the village—from Piazza Matteotti to Piazzetta Parri—markets, family areas, activities, and entertainment for children, and plenty of musical moments for everyone come to life. From DJ sets to live concerts, from cooking classes dedicated to piadina to tributes to great Italian music, each day offers a rich and varied program that culminates in classic local tradition events, such as the exhibition of vintage cars and historic motorcycles along Viale Diaz and Viale Minghetti.
The spiritual heart of the event is the celebration of Blessed Alessio, a figure linked for centuries to the popular devotion of Riccione Paese. The services, organized by the Parish of San Martino, begin with a solemn procession from the "old" church to the "new" church on Viale Diaz, and continue with masses, walks, choirs, and blessings that mark the entire festive weekend.
The 2026 edition animated the historic center of Riccione Paese from Friday, April 10 to Sunday, April 12, with the religious opening moved to Thursday, April 9. Alongside the 'cassone alle rosole' stands, the program alternated music, cuisine, and tradition throughout the weekend, with the celebrations of Blessed Alessio curated by the Parish of San Martino.
