The Pinzolo stop of the Trentino high-altitude music festival, held at the Piano del Lago Asciutto in the Brenta Dolomites.
In the municipality of Pinzolo, in Val Rendena, in the heart of the Brenta Dolomites (Province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige), the local stage of I Suoni delle Dolomiti is held—the high-altitude music festival that brings the mountains of Trentino to life every summer. Conceived in 1995 and currently managed by Trentino Marketing, the festival boasts exceptional artistic direction under cellist Mario Brunello. The Pinzolo event takes place within the Madonna di Campiglio tourist area, with the area's opening concert held at the evocative Piano del Lago Asciutto (Piano del Nardis).
The philosophy of I Suoni delle Dolomiti is unique in the Italian landscape: it eschews large stages and traditional concert infrastructure to bring music to places where silence usually reigns. Concerts are held in high-altitude meadows, mountain huts, and clearings reachable on foot, along trails of varying difficulty traversed by both the public and the musicians. Here, the hike is a central part of the experience: you climb the mountain, sit on the grass, and listen to music at noon, with the Brenta peaks serving as a natural backdrop. Almost all concerts are free (with the exception of the Trekking dei Suoni), and a focus on the environment and sustainable tourism is one of the event's founding values.
The Piano del Lago Asciutto, also known as Piano del Nardis, is a vast alpine plateau nestled in the Brenta Dolomites, between Pinzolo and Madonna di Campiglio. It is accessed from Pinzolo via the Doss del Sabion ski lifts, followed by a hike of about an hour and a half along trails 357 and 307. It is an ideal setting for the festival's format, where the effort of the climb and the beauty of the landscape become an integral part of the musical performance.
Each edition features a program ranging from classical music to jazz, from singer-songwriters to projects that intertwine music and mountaineering, with top international guests who choose to perform without a stage, in direct contact with the public and nature. For Pinzolo, Val Rendena, and the Madonna di Campiglio area, I Suoni delle Dolomiti has become one of the most iconic cultural events of the alpine summer in Trentino, capable of uniting great music, mountain traditions, and the extraordinary setting of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
For the 31st edition of I Suoni delle Dolomiti (August 24 – October 3, 2026), the first event in the Madonna di Campiglio area is held in the territory of Pinzolo: on September 12, 2026, at 12:00 PM, at the Piano del Lago Asciutto (Piano del Nardis), in the heart of the Brenta Dolomites.
The star of the concert is the Ilumina Ensemble, an international collective born in Brazil (in São Paulo, in 2015) that brings together established musicians and young talents, often from disadvantaged backgrounds. Its immersive performances transform the concert into a shared experience with a strong educational and social commitment. The ensemble has performed in prestigious international venues, from the Lucerne Festival and the Edinburgh International Festival to the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
The Piano del Lago Asciutto can be reached from Pinzolo via the Doss del Sabion ski lifts (paid ticket, free parking at the departure point), then along trails 357 and 307 for about an hour and a half of hiking, with an E (hiking) difficulty level. A guided excursion is available for a fee (15 euros per person, free for children under 8, discount for Trentino Guest Card holders) upon reservation. In case of bad weather, the backup concert is held at 5:30 PM at the Paladolomiti in Pinzolo.
Pinzolo can be reached by car via the SS239 Val Rendena road; the nearest motorway exit is Trento Centro (A22 Brennero motorway), from which you continue towards the Giudicarie and Val Rendena. The Piano del Lago Asciutto is reachable from Pinzolo via the Doss del Sabion lifts (paid ticket, free parking at the departure point), then along trails 357 and 307 for about 1.5 hours of hiking (difficulty E - easy/tourist).
The concert is free to attend. A guided excursion to the concert site is available for a fee and by reservation. In case of bad weather, the backup concert is held at the Paladolomiti in Pinzolo.
