I Grandi Concerti is one of the most anticipated musical events of the summer in Casalbordino, a town on the Trabocchi Coast in the province of Chieti, in the heart of Abruzzo. For over twenty-five years, the event has transformed the central Piazza Umberto I into an open-air theater, where the great operatic and symphonic repertoire meets the public under the stars.

A tradition born in the late nineties

Conceived and promoted by the La Famiglia Casalese Cultural Association, the festival has its roots in the late nineties and has spent decades staying true to its mission: bringing high-quality classical music to the public square, free of charge and open to all. Over the years, the event has featured opera galas, concert-style operas, and symphonic evenings, with the participation of orchestras such as the Nova Amadeus of Rome and conductors, choirs, and soloists from Italy's leading theaters.

Opera and symphonic music under the stars

The program varies from year to year but maintains a clear common thread: the promotion of Italian melodrama and the symphonic repertoire. In past editions, the audience has enjoyed famous grand opera galas featuring arias from the masterpieces of Verdi, Puccini, and Rossini, as well as full operatic titles like Aida, female vocal ensembles, and ballet choreography. The 2025 edition, the twenty-seventh, was held on August 3rd and reaffirmed the grand symphonic concert format.

Casalbordino and the Abruzzo summer

The event is an integral part of the Estatissima summer program, a rich calendar of events that the Municipality of Casalbordino dedicates every year to residents and tourists, featuring music, local traditions, performances, and social gatherings. Set in the historic center just a few kilometers from the coast and the famous Sanctuary of the Madonna dei Miracoli, the event combines high-level cultural programming with the charm of a summer evening in a bustling square.
