The traditional games festival in Bieno, Valsugana
I Giochi de na Volta is the popular festival that brings Bieno to life every summer. This small village of about 450 inhabitants is located in the Valsugana valley, in the province of Trento, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. Overlooking the Tesino Basin and nestled on a panoramic terrace at an altitude of about 810 meters, Bieno is known as the "little balcony of the Valsugana": an ancient village tied to the history of the stonemasons who extracted granite from the nearby Rava quarries.
The event, organized by the Pro Loco of Bieno, brings back to life the games and pastimes of the past, those played in town squares and courtyards before the arrival of modern technology. It is an opportunity to rediscover the village's community spirit and spend a day in good company, out in the open air.
The heart of the event is the team tournament held at the Bieno sports field. Registration opens in the early afternoon, and the challenge kicks off shortly after with a series of skill tests, group games, and traditional pastimes that put dexterity, ingenuity, and teamwork to the test. The day concludes with the final awards ceremony for the participating teams, in an atmosphere of joy and healthy competition.
Throughout the day, food stalls run by Pro Loco volunteers are open, offering a chance to taste traditional local specialties. Highlights include tortel di patate, a symbolic dish of Trentino cuisine, sandwiches, drinks, and the unmissable Nutella party, which is very popular with children. It is a way to combine the joy of the festival with the pleasure of good Valsugana cuisine.
Participating in I Giochi de na Volta is also an opportunity to discover Bieno and its surroundings: the church of San Biagio, the Pison waterfall, the centuries-old linden tree near Maso Weiss, and the trails that climb toward the Rava mountain huts and high-altitude alpine lakes. An authentic corner of the Valsugana, where local traditions are still alive and shared.
