An equestrian gala under the Nebrodi sky

Horses Under the Stars is a grand evening dedicated to horses and the equestrian arts, held every summer in Castel di Lucio, a village of about 1,350 residents perched in the heart of the western Nebrodi Mountains, in the province of Messina. The event, which reached its thirteenth edition in 2025, is now a staple of the local summer calendar and attracts audiences from neighboring towns and across much of Sicily.

The show

The event takes place at night and is structured as a true gala: high-school horsemanship, displays of skill, acrobatics, and choreography that showcase the harmony between rider and horse. The performances are accompanied by music, light shows, and the enthusiasm of the crowd, creating a festive atmosphere that also serves to promote the local equestrian culture. Over the years, the event has featured various riders and artists from the Sicilian equestrian scene, including well-known figures such as Salvatore Improta, known as "Sasà," and the Aragonas group.

Castel di Lucio and its summer

The village, nestled in the Nebrodi Park, maintains a strong connection to its traditions: from the Caciocavallo Festival (the famous Sagra du Cascavaddu) to the feast of the patron saint San Placido, the summer in Castel di Lucio is marked by gastronomic, religious, and cultural events. "Horses Under the Stars" stands out in this program as the most spectacular event, blending a passion for horses—deeply rooted in the Nebrodi countryside—with the joy of gathering under the August sky.
