Taste, tradition, and music in the Old Town of Corato
The Horse Meat Festival is the most anticipated food and wine event of the Corato spring and a flagship of the PrimaVera Fest, a widespread festival that brings the historic center of Corato, in the province of Bari, Puglia, to life for weeks. For two evenings, the Old Town lights up with atmosphere, aromas, and music, transforming into a large open-air stage where local culinary tradition meets street-party vibes.
The absolute star is horse meat, one of the most deep-seated specialties in the gastronomic culture of Corato and the Murgia region. Along the streets and squares of the historic center, food and beverage vendors set up numerous stalls, each with its own menu: from traditional dishes to contemporary interpretations, horse meat is served in many variations, accompanied by a glass of fine Puglian wine. The heart of the festival is high-quality street food, designed to help visitors discover the authentic flavors of the territory at an affordable price.
Alongside the culinary offerings, the festival features a rich program of live music spread across the squares of the Old Town, including Piazza Sedile and Piazza Di Vagno. Folk, swing, and pop bands accompany the evenings, creating a festive atmosphere that engages families, young people, and visitors of all ages, not only from Corato but also from neighboring towns and the entire region.
The event is promoted by the Municipality of Corato together with Puglia Culture, in collaboration with Confcommercio Bari-BAT, the GAL Le Città di Castel del Monte, and Slow Murgia, with the patronage of the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy. It is a project that combines the enhancement of the historic center, support for local businesses, and the promotion of Puglian food and wine traditions. After the great success of the first editions, which attracted tens of thousands of people, the Horse Meat Festival confirms itself as an unmissable spring appointment in Puglia.
The third edition of the Horse Meat Festival was held in Corato on May 9 and 10, 2026, with stands opening at 8:00 PM and live music from 8:30 PM. The Old Town hosted numerous food stalls, each with its own menu, to rediscover horse meat in its many variations. The tasting ticket, priced at 8 euros, included a traditional dish and a drink. The event, one of the most popular of the PrimaVera Fest, enlivened the squares of the historic center with concerts and shows.
