The pork-themed feast in the Casali district of Roccapiemonte
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In the town of Roccapiemonte, in the province of Salerno, the His Majesty the Pig Festival is the summer event that pays tribute to pork, the true protagonist of Campania's popular cuisine. The event takes place in the Casali district, in the space adjacent to Palazzo Marciani, and is organized by the Roccapiemonte Pro Loco in collaboration with the Napoli 'Alferio La Pastina' club.
The title, intentionally ironic and regal, says it all: here, pork is not just one ingredient among many, but the undisputed sovereign of the table. It follows the same philosophy as the rural festivals of the Campanian hinterland, where nothing of the pig is wasted and every cut becomes a dish of family memory.
The evenings revolve around open-air food stalls, with dishes prepared and served by volunteers. Among the highlights of recent editions:
The raw materials come from local butchers—Albero in Castel San Giorgio, Alfredo Fasolino, and Gianmarco in Roccapiemonte—a short supply chain choice that links the festival to the commercial and artisanal fabric of the Agro Nocerino-Sarnese area.
The most anticipated and lighthearted moment is 'The Big Feast', a culinary endurance contest that tests the participants' stomachs and entertains the crowd gathered around the tables. It is the event that gives the festival its most popular and theatrical character, complete with cheering, live commentary, and final applause.
The His Majesty the Pig Festival is not just about gastronomy: part of the proceeds is donated to concrete projects for the town. For the 2025 edition, organizers announced that a portion of the takings would go toward purchasing a defibrillator station to be installed in Piazza Gaetano Polichetti, in the heart of Casali. It is a prime example of how Campanian Pro Loco associations can transform three days of celebration into a permanent service for residents.
Roccapiemonte is located in the northern part of the province of Salerno, near Castel San Giorgio and Nocera Inferiore, in the Agro Nocerino-Sarnese, one of the most fertile and densely populated areas of Campania. The Casali district, with its Palazzo Marciani, offers the festival an intimate setting that is easily accessible and perfect for a celebration built on communal tables, conversation, and evening strolls among the stalls.
The event is traditionally held in July: the 2025 edition took place from July 11th to 13th, over three consecutive evenings. The dates for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced; it is best to follow the social media channels of the Roccapiemonte Pro Loco, which publishes the poster and program in the weeks leading up to the event.
