Running in the land of engines, from Maranello to Modena
The Half Marathon of Italy – Enzo Ferrari Memorial is much more than a running race: it's a running journey into the legend of Italian motorsport. Organized by RCS Sports & Events together with the Municipality of Maranello (Province of Modena, Emilia-Romagna), the event starts and winds through the symbolic places of Ferrari, in that Motor Valley that has made this corner of the Emilia plain famous worldwide.
The half marathon course connects Maranello to Modena, also passing through the municipalities of Fiorano Modenese and Formigine. The start is set in front of the Ferrari Museum, on Via Dino Ferrari. Runners race alongside the Maranello company's factories, along the historic Fiorano track and on the e-Vortex test circuit: a privilege reserved for those wearing a bib, as these are normally off-limits locations. The finish line is in the heart of Modena, a UNESCO World Heritage city.
The event offers three different races designed for every type of participant:
In just a few editions, the Half Marathon of Italy has become an internationally renowned event: the race attracts a total of 15,000 participants over the various distances, with about a third of the participants coming from abroad and 88 nations represented at the start. An entire weekend of celebration revolves around the race, with the event village, the presentation of top runners, and initiatives related to the territory and sustainability.
Running here means crossing the place where Enzo Ferrari's dream was born and grew. The Memorial dedicated to him unites sport, engines, and Emilian identity in one great popular festival that colors the roads between Maranello and Modena red.
The second edition of the Half Marathon of Italy – Enzo Ferrari Memorial confirmed the event's success, with an entire weekend of sport between Maranello and Modena. 15,000 participants overall across the various distances, with about a third of them foreigners, representing 88 nations. The 5 km Family Run on Saturday alone involved about 7,000 participants.
In the competitive half marathon on Sunday, March 29, Kenyan Dennis Kipruto triumphed in 1h00'44", leading from start to finish. Among the women, victory went to Regina Wambui Ndungu (Kenya) in 1h09'03", ahead of Italian Sara Bottarelli (1h12'19"), the reigning Italian champion, and Melissa Fracassini (1h13'21").
Among the favorites at the start: Dennis Kipruto and Shadrack Kipngetich Koech (Kenya), Ahmed El Mazoury (Italy) for men; Regina Wambui Ndungu, Susan Wanjiku Kamoto (Kenya), and Sara Bottarelli (Italy) for women.
Maranello can be reached by car from the A1 (Modena Sud exit) or A22 (Modena Nord exit), following signs for Maranello/Sassuolo. The nearest train station is Modena, which is then connected to Maranello by bus. The half marathon finish line is in the center of Modena.
The fee for the half marathon varies depending on the registration period (starting from approximately €14 in the initial phases up to approximately €20 closer to the date). Online registration via the official platform.
Traffic changes are expected in the affected municipalities on race day: it's best to arrive early. The Ferrari Museums in Maranello and Modena offer discounted rates to registered participants.
