In Fiorano Modenese, in the heart of the ceramic district in the province of Modena (Emilia-Romagna), the Ferragosto at Spezzano Castle is an eagerly awaited event for those who don't want to give up culture even on the most summery day of the year. On August 15th, the castle remains open exceptionally from 10:30 AM to 11:00 PM, offering an entire day of visits, art, and music with completely free admission.

Spezzano Castle

Of medieval origin, the manor was transformed starting in 1529 by the Pio di Savoia family into a refined noble country residence, preserving its Renaissance core. Today, it houses the Fiorano Ceramic Museum, spread across the first floor and the basements, and the Municipal Vinegar Factory, located in the evocative pentagonal tower that once served as a prison. The jewel of the building is the Sala delle Vedute (Hall of Views), a reception room decorated with an impressive cycle of frescoes depicting villages, towers, and castles of the ancient fiefdom.

What to do on Ferragosto

The day revolves around three complementary offerings:

• Free guided tours of the residence, the Ceramic Museum, and the vinegar factory, without reservation, meeting in the arcaded courtyard;
• Walks in the 19th-century park surrounding the castle, with a picnic area and a cycle-pedestrian path connecting it to the Salse di Nirano Nature Reserve;
• The evening Ferragosto Concert in the courtyard, the real highlight of the evening.

The Ferragosto Concert

In the evening, the castle courtyard transforms into a stage for the Ferragosto Concert, organized by the association Amici della Musica Nino Rota in collaboration with the Municipality of Fiorano Modenese. It's the most spectacular moment of the day: live music under the stars, in a unique historical setting, with free admission subject to availability.
