The Gela Half Marathon

The Gulf Half Marathon is the most anticipated running event in Gela, a city in the province of Caltanissetta on the southern coast of Sicily. Organized by A.S.D. Atletica Gela, the race is a well-established fixture on the regional calendar, attracting hundreds of runners from across the island and beyond every year.

A course by the sea

The start and finish lines are located in the residential district of Macchitella, just steps from the sea. The half marathon route follows a city circuit of just over 10.5 km, completely closed to traffic and repeated twice. It is a flat and fast course that winds along the seafront and the district's streets, highly appreciated by runners aiming to beat their personal bests while overlooking the Gulf of Gela.

Distances and format

The event offers the classic half marathon distance (21.097 km) as well as a shorter 10.55 km race—a single lap of the circuit—which is included in the FIDAL territorial calendar and open to those who prefer a shorter distance. The Gulf Half Marathon is part of the Sicilian regional half marathon Grand Prix, serving as one of its key stages.

Sport and social commitment

In recent years, the Gulf Half Marathon has combined its sporting side with a strong focus on social and cultural issues, featuring side events aimed at schools and the local community. The race pack includes a technical jersey and a commemorative medal. The race is also a great way to rediscover Gela and its surroundings, from the walls of Timoleon to the seafront overlooking the gulf.
