Alpine sailing and regatta on Lake Molveno at the foot of the Brenta Dolomites
The Gruppo di Brenta Alpine Sailing Festival is the late-summer sailing event held on Lake Molveno, in the municipality of Molveno (Province of Trento), Trentino-Alto Adige. Organized by the Velica Molveno ASD association, the event serves as the ideal closing of the sailing season on the lake, drawing sailors, enthusiasts, and curious onlookers to the shores of one of Italy's most beautiful alpine bodies of water.
Lake Molveno is nestled at the foot of the Brenta Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and has been recognized for years by Legambiente as the most beautiful lake in Italy for its water quality. Its clear shores, fed by waters descending from the Brenta range, offer an ideal setting for sailing: on one side, the rocky profiles of the Dolomite group stand out, including the Campanile Basso, the Croz dell'Altissimo, and Cima Tosa. Sailing here means experiencing the alpine wind in a setting that is hard to match.
The Alpine Sailing Festival is an event that combines the recreational aspect of a sailing excursion with the competitive nature of a regatta. Snipe class boats—a two-person dinghy traditionally present on the lake—are the stars of the sailing activity in Molveno, which is part of the XIV FIV Zone (Italian Sailing Federation) program. The event is part of a sailing calendar that enlivens the lake throughout the summer with courses, regional regattas, and events for all ages.
The event is promoted by Velica Molveno ASD, the local sailing association that offers sailing courses for children, teenagers, and adults, themed outings, and introductory activities to the sport in an exceptional natural context. The association collaborates with the Italian Sailing Federation and local entities to promote alpine sailing and enhance the value of the Molveno waters.
Those visiting Molveno for the Alpine Sailing Festival will find a Dolomite village full of offerings: walks along the famous lake circuit, excursions towards the Brenta Dolomites and the Paganella group, and outdoor water sports such as canoeing, SUP, and windsurfing. The event is thus also an opportunity to discover Molveno and its lake during one of the most evocative seasons of the year.
The Gruppo di Brenta Alpine Sailing Festival returns to Lake Molveno on August 30, 2026. The date is confirmed by the official calendar of Velica Molveno ASD and the national calendar of the Snipe class for Italy (XIV FIV Zone). The event closes the summer sailing season on the lake, with boats engaged in both sailing excursions and nautical activities at the foot of the Brenta Dolomites.
At the moment, the organizers have not yet released the detailed program for the 2026 edition (departure times, registration methods, and rankings). For updates, please refer to the official website www.velicamolveno.it and the association's contact details.
Molveno can be reached by car via the A22 Brenner motorway (exit San Michele all'Adige/Mezzocorona or Trento Nord), heading up towards the Paganella Plateau. By train, the reference station is Trento, which is connected to Molveno by regular bus services.
The sailing activity takes place on Lake Molveno, at the lido and the shores of the lake. The regattas and sailing events can also be followed from the beach.
