Two days of scientific outreach at the Parco Culturale Le Serre
The Grugliasco Science Festival is a scientific outreach event that brings the Parco Culturale Le Serre to life every year in the heart of Grugliasco, in the Province of Turin. For two days, the green space of the former municipal nursery transforms into a large open-air laboratory, where science steps out of classrooms and university departments to meet the public in a direct, hands-on, and fun way.
The initiative stems from a collaboration between the Municipality of Grugliasco and the Piedmontese research community, involving the University of Turin, the Polytechnic of Turin, and local scientific outreach associations. It is a project that focuses on schools and students, while also opening its doors to families and all curious citizens.
The program features a variety of activities designed to engage all ages:
Key participants in the festival include four departments from the University of Turin โ Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences (DISAFA), Life Sciences and Systems Biology (DIBIOS), Veterinary Sciences (DSV), and Chemistry โ alongside the Polytechnic of Turin and the associations CentroScienza and Le parole della Scienza. This network makes Grugliasco, already home to the university campus for agricultural and veterinary sciences, a reference point for scientific outreach in the Turin metropolitan area.
The Science Festival is now one of the most cherished cultural events in the city: it introduces young people to the scientific method, strengthens the bond between the local area and its research centers, and returns the park to citizens as a space for knowledge. Admission is free, confirming the event's public and inclusive nature, which is deeply rooted in the traditions of Grugliasco and Piedmont.
The third edition of the Grugliasco Science Festival was held on May 28 and 29, 2026, at the Parco Culturale Le Serre, recording high participation from students, teachers, researchers, and citizens.
For two days, the park turned into a large open-air laboratory: local schools were able to experience science firsthand through interactive booths, workshops, and experiments carried out with the four departments of the University of Turin (DISAFA, DIBIOS, Veterinary Sciences, and Chemistry), the Polytechnic of Turin, and the associations CentroScienza and Le parole della Scienza.
Among the most appreciated moments were the interactive installation The Brain Garden and the closing science show.
Two days of scientific outreach with the park transformed into an open-air laboratory.
Closing event: science show "Once upon a neuron โ Story of a tangle called the brain", conducted by Prof. Federico Luzzati (University of Turin, Department of Life Sciences and Systems Biology, NICO).
The festival is held at the Parco Culturale Le Serre, on Via Tiziano Lanza in Grugliasco (TO), with some events taking place at the Auditorium 66 Martiri.
Grugliasco is located in the first western belt of Turin. By car, it can be reached via the Turin ring road (Grugliasco/Rivoli exits); by public transport, it is connected to Turin city center by GTT lines. It takes about 30 minutes from the Torino Porta Susa train station.
Admission is free. Some workshops and activities may require booking.
The event is suitable for families and children. Comfortable clothing is recommended for outdoor activities in the park.
