Cinema, music, and sustainability in Saluzzo, at the foot of Monviso
The Green Days Festival is a cultural event that takes place every March, bringing life to the city of Saluzzo and the village of Ostana, in the Upper Po Valley, in the Province of Cuneo. Promoted by the Ratatoj APS association, based on Via Palazzo di Città in Saluzzo, the festival addresses what the organizers call the "sustainability trilemma"—environmental, social, and economic—using the languages of cinema, music, theater, and art. It is one of the most original cultural offerings in southwestern Piedmont, successfully blending reflection on environmental issues with a high-quality program.
The heart of the festival is the film section, hosted at the Cinema Teatro Magda Olivero in Saluzzo, featuring an intensive weekend of free screenings: documentaries, short films, restored classics, and animated films for children, often followed by discussions with directors, guests, and experts. Alongside the cinema, the program offers concerts, theatrical performances, dance shows, workshops, and school-oriented activities, making Green Days a cross-generational event.
The fourth edition, spread throughout the month of March 2026, reached its peak during the weekend of March 21-23 with the "Cinema and Green Days" program. This included three days of free screenings, ranging from past masterpieces like Charlie Chaplin's "Modern Times" (in a 4K restored version) to contemporary titles focused on the environment, climate migration, and activism. The festival concluded on March 28 with a concert by Gianluca Petrella and his "Cosmic Renaissance" project, a preview of the Jazz is Dead! festival in Turin.
The Green Days Festival is about more than just culture: a significant part of the project is dedicated to concrete environmental actions, such as the Ratatoj Forest, a reforestation initiative in Ostana part of the Robin Wood project, supported by the public's "forest gifts." Woodland walks in the Upper Po Valley, moments of collective reflection, and collaborations with dozens of national and European organizations complete an identity deeply rooted in the Monviso territory.
Part of the cultural calendar of the Municipality of Saluzzo and the Province of Cuneo, the Green Days Festival is a virtuous example of how a mid-sized Piedmontese city can become a reference point for sustainability culture, weaving together art, cinema, and environmental commitment in a unique way.
The fourth edition, organized by Ratatoj APS in Saluzzo, focused on the theme of alienation in contemporary development models and the relationship between humanity and nature. The cinema weekend (March 21-23) featured works such as Chaplin's "Modern Times" in 4K, "Makala," "Green Is the New Red," "Flow," and numerous short films, with discussions on sustainability.
The festival concluded on March 28 with the concert by Gianluca Petrella, "Cosmic Renaissance," a preview of the Jazz is Dead! festival in Turin.
Screenings and performances mainly take place at the Cinema Teatro Magda Olivero in Saluzzo (CN); some activities are held in the territory of Ostana, in the Upper Po Valley.
