The international festival of contemporary circus and performing arts in the Cuneo area
Founded in 2007, Mirabilia International Circus & Performing Arts Festival has become one of Europe's premier events for contemporary circus and performing arts. Conceived and artistically directed by Fabrizio Gavosto and organized by the IdeAgorà Cultural Association, the festival has turned the Province of Cuneo in Piedmont into an open-air laboratory, bringing acrobats, dancers, street actors, and circus artists to the squares, courtyards, museums, and natural landscapes of the Cuneo valleys.
For its twentieth anniversary in 2026, Mirabilia has chosen Busca as its opening stage. This village in the Maira Valley serves as the creative heart of the festival, hosting artistic residencies, previews, and creative workshops that run throughout the summer. It is in Busca that audiences can experience the festival in its most intimate, hands-on form, getting up close and personal with the performing companies.
Following Busca, Mirabilia transforms into Mirabilia On the Road, its nomadic, itinerant phase: a journey through nine towns in the Cuneo and Alba areas until September 20th, spanning historic centers, valleys, villages, museums, and heritage sites. The anniversary edition features 52 international companies from Portugal, Spain, the UK, Germany, Chile, France, Belgium, Switzerland, and Denmark, totaling 170 performances across more than fifty locations.
The 2026 program reaffirms Mirabilia's international vocation with 4 world premieres, 8 national premieres, and 16 regional debuts. The theme chosen for the twentieth anniversary is a verse by Spanish poet Antonio Machado: «Caminante, no hay camino, se hace camino al andar» (Traveler, there is no path; the path is made by walking), highlighting the idea of a culture built step by step, together with the audience and the local community.
While the program centers on contemporary circus, it also encompasses dance, street theatre, urban performances, and experimental works. Most shows are free and held outdoors, designed for a wide audience including families, children, enthusiasts, and the simply curious. Mirabilia has always been an opportunity to discover the Cuneo area through the lens of live art, fostering a continuous dialogue between artists and local communities.
The twentieth anniversary edition of Mirabilia chooses Busca as its opening stage from July 3rd to 5th, 2026. Here, the festival showcases its most hands-on side: artistic residencies, previews, and new creations that anticipate the grand journey of Mirabilia On the Road through nine towns in the Cuneo and Alba areas until September 20th.
In total, the 2026 edition brings together 52 international companies from nine countries, 170 performances in over fifty locations, with 4 world premieres, 8 national premieres, and 16 regional debuts. The chosen theme is the famous verse by Antonio Machado: «Caminante, no hay camino, se hace camino al andar».
Busca opens the festival as the creative heart of the event: three days dedicated to artistic residencies, previews, and company creation processes, with contemporary circus, dance, and street theatre shows in the village's squares and spaces.
After Busca, Mirabilia continues with Mirabilia On the Road, visiting other stops in the Cuneo and Alba areas:
Announced international companies include prominent acts such as Motionhouse (UK), Cie Pakipaya (Spain), and PistaCatro (Portugal/Spain), alongside artists from Chile, Germany, and Denmark. The detailed program, including specific show times and locations, is published on the official festival website.
Busca is located in the Province of Cuneo, Piedmont, at the foot of the Maira Valley. By car, it is accessible via the A6 Turin-Savona motorway (Marene exit), continuing towards Cuneo, or via the A33 Asti-Cuneo. By train, Cuneo station is approximately 15 km away, with bus connections available to Busca.
Many Mirabilia shows are free and held outdoors. For ticketed performances, booking is managed online; we recommend checking the official website and the festival app for schedules, reservations, and availability.
The festival takes place across multiple squares and locations: arrive early for popular shows and download the daily program from the website. Comfortable clothing is recommended for outdoor events.
