The cycling granfondo through the hills of Livorno and Pisa, in memory of the 2017 flood
The Granfondo Città di Livorno – 2017 Flood Memorial is one of the most heartfelt cycling events on the Tuscan coast. Every year, in early September, the roads of the Municipality of Livorno and the nearby Pisan hills fill with hundreds of cyclists ready to tackle panoramic climbs and descents overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. The race is organized by Circolo Carli Salviano ASD (GSCarli) under the patronage of the Municipality of Livorno and, starting from the 2026 edition, the Naval Academy.
This granfondo is more than just a race: its name carries the memory of the 2017 flood, the dramatic event that struck Livorno and its territory hard on the night between September 9 and 10 of that year. Cycling these roads becomes a gesture of solidarity and a bond with the city—a way to remember while looking forward with the community spirit typical of the people of Livorno.
The event is designed to welcome both competitive athletes and cycle tourism enthusiasts. Participants can choose between three routes that wind through the sea, hills, and villages of the province of Livorno and Tuscany:
Participation is limited to 800 riders to ensure safety and high-quality organization along the routes.
In addition to the race, the Granfondo Città di Livorno offers all the services expected of major cycling events: parking, refreshment points along the routes, medical assistance, showers, changing rooms, and the traditional post-race pasta party. The event is part of the Alé Challenge circuit, which features some of Italy's most popular granfondos, and is chip-timed to provide every participant with official results. For Livorno and all of Tuscany, it has become an unmissable early September appointment.
The 2026 edition marks the fourth year of the Granfondo Città di Livorno – 2017 Flood Memorial, scheduled for Sunday, September 6, 2026, with start and finish in the Parco del Levante area in Livorno. The major novelty announced by the organizers is the passage inside the Naval Academy, which is granting its patronage: an unprecedented and evocative section compared to the traditional circuit through the hills of Livorno and Pisa.
2026 novelty: the passage inside the Naval Academy of Livorno. Chip-timed event, part of the Alé Challenge circuit. Participation limited to 800 riders.
The meeting point, start, and finish are located on Via Gian Paolo Gamerra, in the Parco del Levante area (Decathlon area) in Livorno. By car: take the Livorno exit from the A12 motorway or the SS1 Aurelia; ample parking is available. By train: Livorno Centrale station, served by Tyrrhenian lines.
Registration is exclusively online via the ENDU platform (www.endu.net), generally open from January 1st until early September. Estimated fees: approx. €45 for the Granfondo and Mediofondo routes, approx. €20 for the Cicloturistico.
Bib and race pack collection is scheduled for Saturday afternoon and early Sunday morning. We recommend booking your accommodation in advance: Livorno and the Etruscan Coast offer numerous options, which are in high demand during early September weekends.
