A journey through art, olive oil, and wine in the village of Conzano
Every year, during the Golosaria among the Monferrato Castles weekend, the village of Conzano, in the province of Alessandria, opens its doors to food lovers and the curious. Resting on the UNESCO-listed Monferrato Casalese hills, the town offers a walking itinerary that combines art, olive oil, and wineโthree keywords that define the identity of this corner of Piedmont. It is more than just a tasting; it is a journey through gardens, historic palaces, and cellars, with a tasting glass always in hand.
The Conzano trail is divided into three stops designed to help you discover the village and its flavors. It begins at the Historic Olive Grove Garden in Piazza Accatino, where you can sample extra virgin olive oil from Monferrato producers paired with local sparkling wine. You then head up towards Villa Vidua and its Civic Tower, which offers a 360-degree view of the hills; the villa is the historic home of explorer and writer Carlo Vidua and houses a multimedia museum dedicated to his travels. The final stop is Tenuta Vallone, a farm estate that concludes the route with its wines.
Along the way, you will taste the products that have made this land famous: extra virgin olive oil, indigenous wines such as Grignolino del Monferrato Casalese and Barbera, accompanied by local cheeses and cured meats. Sparkling wines and vermouth complete a journey that also tells the story of the farming and artisanal expertise of the hills between Asti and Alessandria.
Conzano is part of a much larger mosaic: Golosaria among the Monferrato Castles involves over forty municipalities in the provinces of Asti and Alessandria, transforming the entire territory into a stage for taste. Created by journalist Paolo Massobrio and the Club di Papillon, the event offers dozens of itineraries through castles, villages, and cellars, featuring walks, cycling routes, exhibitions, and wine shops. The Conzano stop is one of the most intimate and human-scale ways to experience this great widespread festival.
Conzano is located in the province of Alessandria, in the Monferrato Casalese hills. By car, it can be reached from the A26 motorway (Casale Monferrato Sud exit), continuing towards the village. The nearest train station is in Casale Monferrato, just a few kilometers away.
The Conzano route has limited capacity, and booking is recommended. For information and registration, you can contact Tenuta Vallone via email or WhatsApp. The starting point is the Historic Olive Grove Garden in Piazza Accatino.
Wear comfortable shoes for the walk through the village streets and hills. A tasting glass is generally included in the participation fee.
