The gnocchi and flavors of the Friulian potato
The Godia Potato Festival is one of the longest-running and most popular festivals in Friuli. It takes place in Godia, an agricultural hamlet on the outskirts of Udine, a few kilometers from the city center and a short distance from the Udine Nord exit of the A23 highway. The absolute star is the potato, cultivated for generations in this fertile land and celebrated in every gastronomic form.
The festival menu is a journey into the most authentic Friulian cuisine: the famous handmade potato gnocchi with various sauces, baked potatoes with rosemary, croquettes, omelets, soups, and other rustic preparations, alongside frico and grilled meat. In recent years, the offering has been enhanced with a stand dedicated to Collio wines and a selection of craft beers, while over 200 volunteers ensure the smooth operation of the large organizational machine, also attentive to sustainability with washable and reusable tableware.
In addition to gastronomy, the festival offers musical evenings, popular games, exhibitions of agricultural tools, and reenactments of ancient crafts, in a program spread over two weekends between late August and early September. Organized by the Gaudium Godia cultural association with the work of the hamlet's volunteers, it is a community celebration that attracts thousands of visitors from Udine and all over Friuli each year. Also noteworthy is the "Gnocchi Drive" service for picking up reserved specialties by car.
The 2026 edition of the Godia Potato Festival marks an important milestone: the 50th edition. As tradition dictates, the festival takes place over two weekends between late August and the first days of September, with a menu based on handmade potato gnocchi, baked potatoes, frico, and Friulian cuisine specialties, accompanied by Collio wines and craft beers. The evenings are enlivened by music, popular games, and festive moments. The precise dates are being confirmed by the organizers.
