Three evenings of handmade gnocchi, live music, and local tradition in Vasanello, in the Viterbo Tuscia region
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
In Vasanello, a village in the Tuscia region near Viterbo, gnocchi are more than just a dish; they are a badge of local pride. The simple water-and-flour dough is hand-kneaded and pressed against the "rattacacio" (cheese grater), which leaves its signature cross-hatched ridges on the surface. This texture is the secret: the grooves trap the sauce, ensuring every bite is packed with flavor. It is a recipe as simple as it is delicious, preserved by Vasanello families for generations.
For three nights in mid-July, the Arena Polivalente in Vasanello turns into a vibrant popular festival. The food stand opens at 8:00 PM each evening, offering a complete menu: a rich antipasto, a choice of gnocchi with various sauces, meat courses, and plenty of desserts, all paired with local wines. The gnocchi are strictly artisanal, crafted one by one by skilled hands using high-quality local ingredients. A gluten-free menu is also available upon reservation.
The food is accompanied by music: every night of the festival features concerts and DJ sets that keep the party going late into the evening. In the 2025 edition, for instance, the stage hosted the acoustic duo La Cricca on Friday, a live performance by Alex Coppa followed by a DJ set from Mr K.I.K.K.O on Saturday, and music by Tommaso Palladino on Sunday—a proven formula that blends gastronomy with popular entertainment.
The festival is organized according to a unique Vasanello tradition: each year, a "class celebration committee"—a group of locals born in the same year—takes charge of the town's events in collaboration with the Municipality of Vasanello. The 15th edition in 2024 was organized by the Class of 1984, while the 16th, in July 2025, was managed by the Class of 1985. This passing of the torch keeps the community spirit alive and ensures fresh energy for the event every year.
Vasanello is located in the Viterbo Tuscia, on the border between the Lazio and Umbria regions, just a few kilometers from Orte. Dominated by the Orsini Castle and known for its ancient pottery tradition, the village features a charming historic center that is well worth a stroll before sitting down to eat. The festival is the perfect excuse to discover an authentic corner of the Viterbo province, far from the beaten tourist path.

However, at the time of writing, there is no official confirmation from the organizing committee or a published program.
