The parade of the districts' allegorical floats along the Giulianova seafront
The Giulianova Summer Carnival is one of the most original and anticipated events of the summer in Giulianova, in the province of Teramo, Abruzzo. Unlike the traditional winter carnival, this summer version brings allegorical floats to the monumental seafront of Giulianova Lido, transforming the promenade into a large open-air stage for a night of celebration. The event was born from a 2020 revival and has since grown into a staple of the Teramo coast's summer calendar.
The heart of the event is the parade of six allegorical floats, created by the city's neighborhoods and districts: Giulianova Lido, Giulianova Paese, Annunziata, Colleranesco, Villa Pozzoni, and Case di Trento. Each float tells a different story and is accompanied by groups of costumed performers, dancers, and meticulously choreographed routines. The procession traditionally starts near the Caprice beach club and travels along the seafront, before splitting along the straight towards the port and the town squares, where the evening continues with music and entertainment.
Behind the Giulianova Summer Carnival is the work of the Float Committee, which coordinates the construction of the floats and the entire organizational machine with the support of the Municipality of Giulianova, local associations, and the districts. Over the years, the event has solidified a twinning with the famous Misterbianco Carnival in the province of Catania, which brings Sicilian masks and performers to Giulianova, enriching the parade with a cultural exchange between two great Italian carnival traditions.
The Giulianova Summer Carnival combines the playful, colorful spirit of carnival with the holiday vibe of the Adriatic Riviera. The night parade, the synchronized music accompanying the groups, the vibrant costumes, and the participation of the neighborhoods create a collective festive atmosphere that involves thousands of people. For Giulianova, known for its elegant monumental seafront and seaside tradition, the event is a way to keep the city's carnival identity alive even in the heart of summer.
Thanks to its timing in the peak of the summer season, the Giulianova Summer Carnival attracts not only residents but also the many tourists vacationing on the Teramo coast. The free, open-air format, combined with the charm of the seafront at sunset, makes it one of the signature events of the Giulianova summer and a must-see for anyone spending their holidays on this stretch of the Abruzzo coast.
The 2026 Giulianova Summer Carnival returns to the seafront of Giulianova (Teramo) on Saturday, August 1, 2026, as indicated in the Municipality's official summer events calendar. This edition will also feature the grand night parade of allegorical floats created by the city's neighborhoods, with masked groups, choreography, and music along the monumental seafront of Giulianova Lido. The full program, including times, route, and details on the floats, will be published by the Float Committee and the Municipality of Giulianova in the weeks preceding the event.
Giulianova is located on the Teramo Adriatic coast. By car: take the A14 motorway and exit at Giulianova. By train: the Giulianova station is on the Adriatic line, just a short walk from the seafront. The parade takes place along the monumental seafront of Giulianova Lido.
The event is held in the height of summer, traditionally between late July and August, in the evening/night.
The event is free and open-air.
