A series of free open-air concerts in the iconic venues of Castelfiorentino
The Giugno Musicale Castellano is the premier musical event of the summer in Castelfiorentino, a town in the Metropolitan City of Florence nestled among the rolling hills of the Valdelsa, in Tuscany. Throughout the month of June, the festival transforms the town's most evocative courtyards and squares into open-air stages, offering the public a series of high-level, completely free concerts. The 2026 edition features seven evenings, from May 31 to June 26, nearly doubling the number of events compared to previous years.
The value of the festival also lies in the choice of its venues, which are authentic landmarks of the town. Concerts take place in the courtyard of the Monastery of Santa Maria della Marca, the courtyard of the Cambio Cultural Centre, and in Piazza Gramsci, offering audiences the experience of listening to live music on summer nights, immersed in the atmosphere of the historic centre.
The 2026 edition offers a diverse musical journey. It kicks off on May 31 with a concert by the Brass Section of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, joined by the Squillibrass ensemble and the G. Verdi Philharmonic. On June 5, the spotlight turns to young talent with "The Youth and the Philharmonic," while on June 6, Piazza Gramsci hosts "Verdi Game," an opera performance dedicated to Giuseppe Verdi, produced by Venti Lucenti in co-production with the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. On June 16, it is time for jazz with a tribute to Charlie Parker and bebop, followed by three evenings at the Cambio Cultural Centre: "Symphony of the New World" on June 18, a romantic tribute to Schumann on June 21, and the opera concert "Verdiani Accenti" on June 26, both featuring the Orpheus Orchestra.
Giugno Musicale Castellano is promoted by the Municipality of Castelfiorentino together with the Orpheus Association and the Amici della Lirica Umberto Borsรฒ Association, in collaboration with the School of Music, the G. Verdi Philharmonic, and the Cambio Cultural Centre. The synergy between local institutions and associations is the strength of an event capable of showcasing both young music students and professional artists, ranging from large symphonic orchestras to operatic repertoire.
With free admission to all evenings, Giugno Musicale Castellano confirms itself as one of the most beloved cultural offerings of the Valdelsa summer. The variety of genres, from classical and opera to jazz and brass band music, makes it an event suitable for the whole family, capable of attracting diverse audiences in a festive atmosphere that accompanies the warm June evenings in Castelfiorentino.
