When summer is in full swing, Gioia del Colle — a town in the Province of Bari, in the heart of the Apulian Murgia — hosts one of its most beloved local festivals: the Beer Festival. For a few evenings in August, the central Piazza Gen. Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa, near the San Filippo Neri school, fills with stalls, open-air tables, and live music, becoming the evening meeting point for residents and visitors alike.

Beer, food, and conviviality

The core of the event is simple and straightforward: draft beer, street food, and Apulian culinary specialties to be enjoyed while sitting in the square, pint in hand. The Beer Festival is part of the rich Joha AeStas summer schedule, the program of events promoted by the Municipal Administration of Gioia del Colle that brings the city to life from late June to September with dozens of appointments featuring music, open-air cinema, literature, traditions, and gastronomy. During the same period, the city hosts other highly anticipated events, such as the Palio delle Botti (Barrel Race) and various local food festivals, making August the highlight of the Gioia summer.
