Folk music and cultures from five continents in the heart of the Valle d'Itria

The Ghironda Summer Festival is one of Southern Italy's longest-running and most beloved events dedicated to world folk music and culture. Born from the experience of the La Ghironda association, the festival has made the historic center of Ceglie Messapica, in the province of Brindisi, one of its primary stages, alongside nearby Martina Franca. For a few days, the white-washed streets of the Valle d'Itria come alive with sounds, dances, and colors from five continents.
The festival's format is that of a widespread, roaming spectacle: rather than a single stage, numerous performance spots are set up in the most picturesque parts of the village. In Ceglie Messapica, performances animate squares and courtyards such as Piazza Sant'Antonio, Piazza Plebiscito, and the cloisters of the old town, where the public wanders freely from one act to the next. Admission is free, and the evenings come to life at sunset, with a program designed for families and children as well.
Every year, the lineup brings together musicians, dancers, street artists, and companies from dozens of different countries: from Mediterranean ballads to Latin American rhythms, from African sounds to Celtic and Balkan traditions, all the way to the local pizzica and taranta that belong to this very land. Alongside the concerts, there are fire-eaters, acrobats, puppets, and street theater shows, creating a festive atmosphere that unites different generations and cultures.
Organized by the cultural association La Ghironda APS, the festival is supported by the participating municipalities and has become a defining event for the Valle d'Itria and the entire Puglia region. The event showcases the architectural heritage of Ceglie Messapica, one of the oldest villages in northern Salento, offering visitors the chance to discover the historic center through music and cross-cultural encounters.
The dates and program for the 2026 edition have not yet been officially announced by the organizers. The festival is traditionally held between late summer and early autumn; to check the updated calendar, it is recommended to consult the official website and the social media channels of the La Ghironda association.
