Wine, flavors, and traditions in the heart of Ghemme for the Feast of Beata Panacea
Launched in 2026 by the Municipality of Ghemme, Ghemme in Festa is the event that brings to life the historic center of this village in the province of Novara, Piedmont, during the days spanning late April to early May. The concept is to bring together the town's many facets under one umbrella: local neighborhood commerce, craftsmanship, local associations, and, above all, the food and wine excellence that makes Ghemme one of the wine capitals of Upper Piedmont.
During the festival days, the main streets of the center—via Monte Rosa, via Roma, and via Novara—transform into a sprawling space dedicated to trade, crafts, and local associations. Stalls, hobbyists, exhibitors, and stands from Ghemme's local businesses welcome visitors, who can navigate between squares following the event map. It is an opportunity to rediscover the village at a human scale, strolling through its alleys and breathing in the atmosphere of a community in celebration.
The beating heart of the event is wine. Ghemme gives its name to one of the most noble Piedmontese reds based on Nebbiolo, the Ghemme DOCG, and during the festival, local winemakers welcome the public in the charming Giardino Gianoli on May 1st and 3rd for tastings and direct dialogue with the producers. The event intertwines with the historic Ghemme DOCG Wine Exhibition, an appointment that the Pro Loco has organized for over half a century, allowing visitors to taste wines from the Colline Novaresi accompanied by local products.
Alongside the wine, local gastronomy takes center stage, with an undisputed sweet symbol: the Beatine of Ghemme, a local specialty linked to the patronal feast, perfect to enjoy on-site or take home. Between local products, sweets, and Novara specialties, the festival is also a journey through the flavors of the Colline Novaresi.
Ghemme in Festa accompanies the celebrations for Beata Panacea, the patron saint of Ghemme and Valsesia, whose feast day falls on May 1st. The parish's religious program, with the novena, processions, and solemn celebrations, unfolds during the same days, weaving the spiritual dimension with the convivial and popular one. It is this union of faith, tradition, and village celebration that gives the event its authentic character.
Ghemme in Festa takes place over two weekends: April 25-26 and May 1-3. The market and hobbyists are mainly present on May 1st and 3rd, from 8:30 AM to 8:00 PM. Winemaker tastings at Giardino Gianoli are held on May 1st and 3rd.
Ghemme is located in the province of Novara, in Upper Piedmont. By car, it is accessible from the A26 motorway (exits Romagnano Sesia-Ghemme or Carpignano Sesia). By train, the Ghemme station is on the Novara-Varallo Sesia line. From Novara, you can reach the village in about half an hour.
Access to the streets and markets is free. For the Wine Exhibition and certain initiatives, tickets or dedicated reservations may be required.
