The village festival in the hamlet of Gallina, in the heart of the Val d'Orcia
Every year, around mid-May, the hamlet of Gallina in the municipality of Castiglione d'Orcia (Siena province, Tuscany) celebrates Gallina in Festa. It is one of those traditional village festivals that capture the most authentic identity of the Val d'Orcia: no grand stages or big names, just the genuine warmth of a community opening its doors to anyone looking for good food, music, and a family atmosphere.
Gallina is a small agricultural village nestled along the ancient Via Cassia, at the foot of Mount Amiata and surrounded by the cereal fields that define the famous UNESCO-listed landscape of the Val d'Orcia. It is in this picturesque setting that the Pro Loco Gallina Association hosts the event every year.
The heart of the festival lies in its food stalls, open for both lunch and dinner, where you can enjoy traditional Val d'Orcia dishes prepared by Pro Loco volunteers. Alongside the great food, the event features:
The dance evenings and folk music, featuring traditional songs and tunes, are among the most anticipated moments: recent editions have featured dance orchestras and local folk groups, perfectly capturing the village spirit.
Attending Gallina in Festa is also a great excuse to explore Castiglione d'Orcia and its surroundings: the main village with its fortress, the nearby Rocca d'Orcia, the thermal baths of Bagno Vignoni, and the rolling hills between Pienza, Montalcino, and Mount Amiata. A small but sincere festival, perfect for those seeking the most authentic side of Tuscany, far from mass tourism circuits.
The Gallina in Festa 2026 event confirmed the usual mid-May appointment in the hamlet of Gallina (Castiglione d'Orcia, Siena province). Once again, the Pro Loco Gallina opened food stalls for lunch and dinner, with a craft and local produce market lining the village streets and music and dance evenings closing out both days.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition, including precise stall times and the names of musical guests, was not released online by the organizers. The festival structure followed the established format of previous years: food stalls for lunch (from 12:30 PM) and dinner (from 7:30 PM) on Saturday and Sunday, with live music and dance evenings starting at 9:00 PM. For updated details, please refer to the Pro Loco Gallina Facebook page.
