About Gagliano Carnival

The Gagliano Castelferrato Carnival is one of the most cherished celebrations in the province of Enna, blending tradition, joy, and creativity. Every year, four parades bring the town streets to life with allegorical floats, masked groups, dancing, and music in the square. The festivities peak on Shrove Tuesday with the awards ceremony for the best costumes and the most original float, in an explosion of color and confetti that delights both young and old.

The Gagliano Castelferrato Carnival

In the heart of inland Sicily, the Gagliano Castelferrato Carnival is one of the most anticipated and heartfelt events in the province of Enna. For a few days, this small town in the Enna area transforms into an open-air stage where tradition, joy, and creativity merge into a popular festival that involves the entire community. Allegorical floats, masked groups, dancing, and music turn the streets and squares of the town into a kaleidoscope of colors.

The parades and the program

The celebration begins about ten days before the traditional Shrove Tuesday, with the first parade of masked groups traveling through the town streets, from the elementary school to Piazza Matteotti, the beating heart of the event. Every year, four parades bring the Gagliano Carnival to life, with groups participating in imaginative and colorful costumes.

  • Fat Thursday: entertainment and games in Piazza Matteotti, where you can taste the traditional sweets of the festival, such as the essential chiacchiere.
  • Saturday: a festive evening with an explosion of colors, dancing, and fun.
  • Sunday: the second grand parade of allegorical floats and masked groups.
  • Shrove Tuesday: the final day with the official awards ceremony for the best adult and children's costumes, and the most original allegorical float.

A community celebration

The Carnival represents a moment of fun and pride for the people of Gagliano, who dedicate themselves with passion to creating the most beautiful costumes and the floats that will parade through the town streets. The event, organized by the Pro Loco in collaboration with the Municipality, is also an opportunity to strengthen community ties and welcome visitors who reach this authentic corner of Sicily.

Gagliano Castelferrato and the surrounding area

Perched around an imposing gypsum cliff, the town of Gagliano Castelferrato, in the province of Enna, retains an ancient charm and a strong sense of identity. The Carnival is one of the most vibrant expressions of this Sicilian popular culture, where the town square festival becomes a collective ritual. Those visiting Sicily in winter will find here a genuine Carnival, far from the major tourist flows but rich in human warmth and tradition.
