Reggae, ska, and folk music in the Dolomites of La Valle, Alta Badia
The Gadersound Open Air Festival is one of the most beloved musical highlights of the South Tyrolean summer. It takes place at Plans dl Galber, in the hamlet of Pederoa, in the municipality of La Valle/Wengen, Alta Badia, in the province of Bolzano (Trentino-Alto Adige). The stage is set up in a stunning natural amphitheatre, nestled between the Gadera stream and the woods, just steps away from the Dolomite peaks: a setting that turns every concert into an immersive experience in the heart of the mountains.
The festival features two days of reggae, ska, and folk music, showcasing a mix of local talent alongside Italian and international acts. The program spans from reggae and ska to folk-rock and Balkan and Latin sounds, with a rhythm that keeps the crowd dancing from the afternoon until late at night. Over the years, the Pederoa stage has hosted renowned bands from the Italian reggae scene such as Train to Roots, Shanti Powa, and Sine Frontera, helping to build the event's reputation well beyond the borders of Val Badia.
Behind Gadersound is the Gadersound Team, the group of Ladin volunteers known as the Adüm Group: in Ladin, "adüm" means "together," and it is precisely this community spirit that drives the more than one hundred local youths who organize the event every year. This participatory nature creates a welcoming and informal atmosphere, where music and social connection intertwine with the identity of the Ladin community in Alta Badia.
Gadersound can be reached by following the Val Badia state road 244 to Pederoa, in the municipality of La Valle/Wengen. Thanks to the free camping and the proximity to the hiking trails of Alta Badia, it is the perfect opportunity to combine two days of concerts with a holiday in the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites.
