Airasca's winter festival during the 'Days of the Blackbird'
The Fûma Festa – Ij di dla Mèrla is the winter version of the traditional popular festival held in Airasca, a small town in the Pinerolo area within the Province of Turin, in the heart of Piedmont. The event takes its name from the so-called giorni della merla (Days of the Blackbird), the last three days of January, which are traditionally considered the coldest of the year. It is precisely during this frosty period that the Airasca community chooses to gather for music, food, and conviviality.
The heart of the event is the central Piazza San Bartolomeo, which is set up for the occasion with a large heated pavilion, allowing guests to enjoy the festivities sheltered from the cold. Every evening, starting at 7:00 PM, the food area opens, offering traditional winter dishes accompanied by beer and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
The musical program is the true driving force of the Fûma Festa: each evening features live concerts and DJ sets, with a special focus on local bands and young talent from the Pinerolo area. The lineup ranges from 70s-80s cartoon cover bands to dance bands, local singer-songwriters, and pop-rock, followed by post-concert DJ sets. It is a program designed for a broad, intergenerational audience.
The event is organized by the Amici del Palio and the Comitato Nosta Festa, the same groups that bring the famous summer Foma Festa in September and the Palio dei Borghi to life. The winter edition was created to extend the festive spirit into the cold season, strengthening ties among residents and keeping one of Airasca's most cherished traditions alive.
