The annual spring concert by the Marling brass band
The Frühjahrskonzert der Musikkapelle Marling is the annual concert with which the Marling/Marlengo brass band (Musikkapelle) inaugurates the spring season. The event is held in the village's Vereinshaus on Innerhoferstraße and stands as one of the most cherished cultural highlights for the community in the Burgraviato area, just outside Merano, in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano (South Tyrol).
As is the case in most South Tyrolean villages, the Musikkapelle is an institution deeply rooted in local life: it accompanies processions, religious and civil holidays, the Feast of Saint Cecilia, and Saint Florian celebrations. The spring concert, however, is the moment when the band presents itself to the public in a purely concert setting, featuring a program carefully prepared throughout the winter months.
The band is led by Kapellmeister Hannes Schrötter, while the evening is hosted by Veronika Wetzel. Each edition revolves around a theme that unifies the program, ranging from transcriptions of major symphonic and cinematic scores to original compositions for brass bands and arrangements of popular music hits. The varied and accessible repertoire is designed for a wide audience, from music enthusiasts to families.
The concert is free of charge. In the days leading up to the event, it is usually possible to reserve seats through the Marling tourist office. The evening traditionally takes place on a Saturday.
Situated on a sunny natural terrace above the Merano basin, nestled between vineyards and apple orchards, the village of Marling is a popular destination for South Tyrolean tourism, also famous for its scenic walking paths. Attending the band's spring concert is a wonderful opportunity to experience the community life and musical culture that define the villages of South Tyrol.
The 2026 spring concert of the Musikkapelle Marling was held on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 8:00 PM in the Vereinshaus of Marling. Under the direction of Kapellmeister Hannes Schrötter and moderated by Veronika Wetzel, the evening was dedicated to the theme of "Heimat", the homeland.
The program featured folk songs from around the world — from South Tyrol to Korea ("Volkslieder aus aller Welt – von Südtirol bis nach Korea"), a musical journey that intertwined the roots of South Tyrolean tradition with melodies from other cultures. The concert, with free admission, confirmed the event as one of the most popular highlights of Marling's community life.
