The spring concert of the Cortaccia wind band in South Tyrol
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Frühjahrskonzert der Musikkapelle Kurtatsch is the traditional spring concert of the wind band of Cortaccia sulla strada del vino (in German, Kurtatsch an der Weinstraße), a municipality in the South Tyrolean Lowlands in the province of Bolzano, Trentino-South Tyrol. It is one of the most anticipated events in the village's cultural life: after months of rehearsals, the Musikkapelle presents a meticulously curated concert program to the public, offering an evening of high-quality wind band music.
The Cortaccia wind band currently has 51 members, including 45 musicians, and is one of the most deeply rooted associations in the village. Like many Musikkapellen in South Tyrol, it combines the preservation of alpine band traditions with a modern and varied repertoire. The ensemble is directed by Kapellmeister Hugo Laimer, who selects programs for each concert that span a wide range of atmospheres. Alongside the spring concert, the Musikkapelle accompanies village life throughout the year, from festivals and religious holidays to the famous traditional New Year's singing, a custom that has been passed down in Cortaccia for over seventy years.
The Frühjahrskonzert is conceived as a true musical journey: the chosen compositions lead the listener through different soundscapes, from legendary mountain peaks to grand city boulevards, and even the green meadows of Ireland. The repertoire spans contemporary band music composers such as Rossano Galante, Bert Appermont, Andrew Goddard, Steven Reineke, Carl Wittrock, Michael Geisler, and Markus Götz, with pieces that highlight the various sections of the ensemble.
The concert takes place in the Turnhalle (the multi-purpose gymnasium) of Cortaccia, which is transformed into a concert hall for the occasion. Cortaccia is a picturesque wine-growing municipality nestled on the sunny slopes of the South Tyrolean Lowlands, along the famous South Tyrolean Wine Road: an ideal setting where the musical evening also becomes an opportunity to discover the hospitality and traditions of this bilingual corner of Trentino-South Tyrol.
The Frühjahrskonzert is designed for the entire community and for visitors alike: a convivial and family-friendly occasion to appreciate the work of local musicians, support the village band, and experience one of the most authentic expressions of South Tyrolean folk culture.
The Frühjahrskonzert der Musikkapelle Kurtatsch returns in the spring of 2026 with the annual concert of the wind band of Cortaccia sulla strada del vino (Kurtatsch an der Weinstraße), in the province of Bolzano. The dates and program for the 2026 edition have not yet been announced at this time: the concert will be held, as is tradition, in the village Turnhalle under the direction of Kapellmeister Hugo Laimer.
