The spring concert of the Lana Civic Band at the Kurhaus in Merano
The Frühjahrskonzert der Bürgerkapelle Lana is the major annual event for the civic band of Lana, one of the most populous municipalities in the Burgraviato district of South Tyrol (province of Bolzano). Every year, traditionally on the first Sunday of March, the Bürgerkapelle Lana leaves its home village to take the stage at the region's most prestigious venue: the Kursaal of the Kurhaus in Merano, an Art Nouveau concert hall overlooking the Passirio river and the heart of Merano's cultural life.
With approximately 80 musicians, the band performs a concert of authentic symphonic wind music (symphonische Blasmusik), moving well beyond the standard parade repertoire. The program features transcriptions of great classical works, original compositions for wind orchestra, and solo pieces that showcase the ensemble's talent. It is the moment when a full year of rehearsals culminates in a single, masterful performance.
A band has been documented in Lana as early as 1832, when its activities were limited to accompanying religious festivals and local processions. However, the spring concerts in the Kurhaus hall in Merano have been held continuously since 1951: over seventy years of history that have turned the Frühjahrskonzert into a true ritual for wind music enthusiasts throughout the Merano area.
Located at the gates of Merano, nestled between the apple orchards of the Adige Valley and the slopes of Monte San Vigilio, Lana is a vibrant hub of the Burgraviato. The Bürgerkapelle is one of the village's most deeply rooted cultural institutions and, like many South Tyrolean civic bands, combines musical excellence with a strong sense of community and identity. The spring concert in Merano is the occasion where this bond between Lana and its territory is shared with a wider audience.
The repertoire alternates between Romantic classics, film scores, and contemporary compositions essential to the wind band world, often featuring soloists from within the band. An unmissable event for anyone who appreciates high-level symphonic wind music.
The 2026 spring concert of the Bürgerkapelle Lana took place on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at 6:00 PM in the Kursaal of the Kurhaus in Merano, before the usual large audience of wind music enthusiasts.
The program combined great classics and contemporary compositions essential to the band repertoire, with a solo moment entrusted to the band's percussion section.
The moving «Brussels Requiem» by Bert Appermont and the solo piece «Spices», featuring percussionists Dominik Palla and Julian Gruber, were among the most applauded moments of the evening.
The concert takes place at the Kurhaus in Merano (Kursaal), Corso Libertà, in the center of Merano, just a few kilometers from Lana. The Bürgerkapelle Lana is based at Andreas-Hofer-Straße 30 in Lana (39011).
Traditionally the first Sunday of March, at 6:00 PM.
Tickets are available in the days leading up to the event at the Raiffeisenhaus in Lana, online via the official portal ticket.bklana.org, and by phone at the band's number. Any remaining tickets are available at the Kursaal starting approximately two hours before the concert.
