The historic Easter festival in Usago di Travesio
The Frog Festival is one of the oldest and most deeply rooted events in Friuli, an occasion that in spring draws visitors from all over the region and beyond to the province of Pordenone. It takes place in the hamlet of Usago, in the Municipality of Travesio, at the foot of the foothills. Its history began in 1957, when the "Pro Travesio" association revived the ancient festival on Easter Day: since then, the festival has been renewed every year in the same period, becoming a symbol of the town's identity.
The dish that made the festival famous is fried frogs, prepared according to "old recipes": a specialty of traditional Friulian peasant cuisine linked to the humid environments and waterways of the plain. The gastronomic stands of the Pro Loco offer this traditional dish along with other local specialties, in an experience that is both gastronomic and a memory of ancient knowledge.
Around the table revolves a program rich in initiatives. The most famous is the Frog March, a non-competitive walk open to all, traditionally held on Easter Monday and crossing the beautiful surrounding hilly landscape. There is also the fun wheelbarrow race, a traditional game that attracts young and old, along with musical evenings, children's shows, and fairground rides. It is a complete village festival, capable of combining taste, amateur sport, and fun.
The festival takes place at the Pro Loco festival grounds, in the hamlet of Usago di Travesio, accessible from the Spilimbergo and Maniago area. The event is traditionally held on the Easter and Easter Monday weekends, with the Frog March on Easter Monday.
For 2026, the Frog Festival renews its historic appointment during the Easter period (Easter falls on April 5th), following the tradition of being spread over several weekends between late March and April. The usual protagonists are confirmed: fried frogs, the Frog March on Easter Monday, the wheelbarrow race, musical evenings, and rides.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition will be published by the Pro Loco of Travesio. The established structure of the festival includes:
