About Fregnacce and Arrosticini Festival

Every summer, the village of Cermignano in the province of Teramo celebrates its most authentic culinary traditions with the Fregnacce and Arrosticini Festival. Over four August evenings, the local Pro Loco stalls serve handmade fregnacce—thin pasta sheets prepared according to local peasant recipes—alongside the iconic sheep-meat arrosticini. Live music, a charming village atmosphere, and a free shuttle service make this one of the most beloved festivals in the Vomano Valley.

A festival in the heart of the Vomano Valley

The Fregnacce and Arrosticini Festival is the summer highlight that brings the village of Cermignano to life every year. Perched at 560 meters above sea level in the middle Vomano Valley, in the province of Teramo, Abruzzo, this small town becomes a meeting point for food lovers, families, and fans of folk music. The event is organized by the Pro Loco of Cermignano APS with the support of the local municipality.

Fregnacce: a dish of peasant tradition

The stars of the show are the handmade fregnacce: thin sheets of water-and-flour dough (sometimes enriched with egg) that are folded, seasoned, and served according to local tradition with regional pecorino cheese and a savory sauce. Alongside the fregnacce, you will find arrosticini—the classic Abruzzese sheep-meat skewers—grilled over hot coals and served piping hot, along with other local specialties.

Four evenings of flavor and music

The festival spans four evenings in August. Food stalls open every evening, with a special lunch service on the final Sunday. After dinner, the village comes alive with live musical entertainment: local bands and groups perform folk music, ballroom dancing, and popular hits, keeping the squares buzzing until late. To make access easier for visitors, a free shuttle service operates every evening.

Cermignano and its surroundings

Cermignano dates back to the 13th century and maintains a strong bond with the countryside and traditions of the Vomano Valley. Nearby lies the hamlet of Montegualtieri, famous for its unique 16th-century triangular tower. Attending the festival is not just about savoring Teramo's cuisine, but also discovering an authentic corner of the Abruzzo hinterland, characterized by rolling hills, historic villages, and warm hospitality.

A community identity event

Now in its many editions, the Fregnacce and Arrosticini Festival is one of the most cherished moments of the Cermignano summer: an occasion where the local community, led by Pro Loco volunteers, showcases its culinary expertise and welcoming spirit. The result is a genuine, family-friendly celebration that draws visitors from across the province of Teramo and the entire Abruzzo region every year.
