Forty drummers beneath the highest dome in Salento for European Music Day
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
Every year, for European Music Day on June 21st, Piazza Giovanni XXIII in Francavilla Fontana transforms into a percussion arena. The Francavilla Drum Festival lines up dozens of drum kits playing in unison, creating a true wall of rhythm beneath what is known as the highest dome in Salento. It is one of the most recognizable musical events of the city's summer, drawing families, enthusiasts, and curious onlookers to the square.
The initiative was born as part of European Music Day, the summer solstice celebration observed across Europe on June 21st with widespread, free-entry concerts. In Francavilla Fontana, the event has taken on a distinct identity thanks to the choice of the drum kit as the lead instrument: a spectacular and engaging format that combines the educational aspect of the music school with the festive atmosphere of a public square concert.
Throughout the evening, the drummers accompany the melodies of great rock hits, in a program designed to be immediate and exhilarating. The collective performances alternate between famous tracks and moments of pure rhythm, with a host guiding the audience through the various stages of the show. Admission is free and the square remains open to everyone, with no reservation required.
The Francavilla Drum Festival is promoted by the Municipal Administration of Francavilla Fontana and the Municipal Music School, in collaboration with Drum Music Event and the Semeraro Drum School. In recent years, artistic direction and coordination have been led by Giovanna Ciracรฌ. The event also serves as a way to showcase the work of students and teachers from local musical institutions.
Located in the southern part of the Brindisi province, on the border with the Salento area of Lecce and Taranto, Francavilla Fontana is known as the "City of the Imperials" due to its historical ties to the feudal family of the same name and its imposing Castle. The historic center, rich in Baroque churches and noble palaces, provides the backdrop for a summer calendar of events where the Francavilla Drum Festival stands out as one of the most anticipated musical appointments in Puglia.
Dates and the program for the 2026 edition of the Francavilla Drum Festival have not yet been officially announced. As this event is tied to the European Music Day on June 21st, updates are typically released in the weeks prior through the channels of the Municipality and the Municipal Music School.
At the moment, there are no official dates or a program available for the 2026 edition of the Francavilla Drum Festival. The event traditionally falls within the celebrations of European Music Day on June 21st, which in Francavilla Fontana takes the form of a large collective performance by drummers in Piazza Giovanni XXIII. Official information will be published by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
