About Foza Sheep Festival

On the last weekend of August, Foza celebrates its native sheep breed with the Sheep Festival, known in the Cimbrian dialect as "Vüsche Öoba". On the Asiago Plateau (Altopiano dei Sette Comuni), in the province of Vicenza, a day of demonstrations of ancient crafts, wool processing, a parade of the flock with costumed figures, street food featuring pecorino cheese and dried meats, educational workshops, and tastings. A tribute to the Foza Sheep, precious for the region's wool mills, and to an ancient mountain pastoral culture.

A festival dedicated to the Foza Sheep

The Foza Sheep Festival, known by the Cimbrian name "Vüsche Öoba", celebrates the native sheep breed of Foza, a municipality on the Asiago Plateau (Altopiano dei Sette Comuni) in the province of Vicenza. For centuries, the Foza Sheep has been a precious resource for the wool mills in this area of Veneto, thanks to its long wool suitable for textile processing. The festival is traditionally held on the last weekend of August and transforms the town center into a grand tribute to mountain pastoral culture.

Crafts, wool, and a flock parade

Along the town's streets, there are demonstrations of ancient crafts: wood carving, basket making, straw weaving, and especially the entire cycle of wool processing, from shearing to washing, from dyeing with plant-based substances to spinning, carding, weaving, and felting. The most spectacular moment is the parade of the flock with costumed figures, accompanied by a themed competition and dedicated lunches in the town's restaurants and bars.

Flavors and local products

Stalls offer typical products of Foza's pastoralism — pecorino cheese and dried meats, alpine cheeses, local jams, aromatic herbs, saffron, and Rotzo potatoes — along with spindles, wool hats and felt slippers, wool and hemp garments, and crafts made by the women of Foza. There are also educational workshops, guided tours, music, and tastings, in a festival that blends taste, tradition, and the Cimbrian identity of the Asiago Plateau.

Foza Sheep Festival — edition 2026

The Foza Sheep Festival (Vüsche Öoba) returns on August 30 and 31, 2026, in the town center, on the Asiago Plateau. Two days dedicated to the native breed with demonstrations of ancient crafts, wool processing, a parade of the flock in costume, stalls of local products, street food, educational workshops, and tastings.

For 2026, the Foza Sheep Festival is scheduled for Saturday, August 30, and Sunday, August 31, confirming its placement on the last weekend of the month. The center of Foza will host demonstrations of ancient crafts (wood carving, basket making, straw weaving), the entire wool processing cycle, stalls of local products, and local crafts.

Among the main events, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, there will be demonstrations and stalls, at 11:00 AM the flock parade with costumed figures, at noon the themed competition and themed lunches offered by the town's restaurants and bars.
