Forte Corno Run

A mountain run in the heart of the Giudicarie

The Forte Corno Run is a mountain race held in Valdaone, a municipality in the Chiese Valley in the province of Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige. Every year, towards the end of June, runners and enthusiasts gather in Piazza San Pietro, in the village of Praso, to tackle an 8-kilometre course with a 400-metre elevation gain, winding largely along dirt roads, trails, and mule tracks.

The route to Forte Corno

The heart of the event is Forte Corno, a historic Austro-Hungarian fortification built to defend the valley and now a scenic hiking destination. From the start in the village, the route climbs towards the fort, where a refreshment point is set up, before continuing along mule tracks and trails that cross the Giudicarie woods, eventually leading participants back to the finish line in Piazza San Pietro. It is a challenging yet accessible course that combines athletic effort with the discovery of the historical and natural heritage of the Chiese Valley.

The origins of the race

The Forte Corno Run was born in 2018 from the initiative of a group of local enthusiasts, who transformed what was initially a simple training route into a full-fledged competition open to everyone. Since its first edition, the race has seen growing participation, becoming one of the signature events of the summer running season in the Chiese Valley and attracting athletes from the national mountain running scene.

The San Pietro Festival

The Forte Corno Run is held in conjunction with the San Pietro Festival, the patronal feast of the village of Praso, organised by the Pro Loco Praso. Sport and tradition thus intertwine in a single weekend of celebration: the race is surrounded by social gatherings, food stands, and opportunities for the entire community to come together in the authentic, welcoming atmosphere typical of mountain villages.

An event for the whole region

More than just a competition, the Forte Corno Run is an opportunity to experience Valdaone and the Chiese Valley, a side valley of Trentino rich in nature, history, and Alpine culture. The event showcases the territory, its trails, and its historical fortifications, offering runners and their supporters a day dedicated to sport, conviviality, and the Dolomite landscape.
