Two days of celebration for the new home of the Parmigiano Reggiano Museum in Fontevivo
The weekend of June 13th and 14th, 2026 marks an important milestone for the Parma region: the Parmigiano Reggiano Museum opens the doors of its new location in Fontevivo, in the heart of the Parma province, Emilia-Romagna. After years spent in the historic Rocca Meli Lupi of Soragna, the museum moves to the evocative Capuchin Convent, within the Corte Castellazzi complex, which for two days transforms into a place of meeting, culture, and tradition, open to citizens, families, visitors, and enthusiasts of the region's gastronomic excellences.
The new museum aims to tell the story, production techniques, culture, and values that have made Parmigiano Reggiano a product known and appreciated worldwide. Through exhibition paths, multimedia materials, and local testimonies, visitors can discover the deep connection between the cheese and the community that has produced it for centuries. Over one hundred and twenty objects dating from the 19th century to the first half of the 20th century, along with about a hundred images, drawings, and vintage photographs, illustrate the evolution of milk processing techniques, the stages of aging, and commercialization.
The Parmigiano Reggiano Museum is part of the network of Food Museums of the Province of Parma, a circuit of nine museums dedicated to the region's food and wine excellences, from Prosciutto di Parma to Salami, from Tomatoes to Pasta. The new Fontevivo location thus joins a unique culinary journey in Italy, capable of combining heritage, popular tradition, and food culture. During the inaugural days, visitors can follow the journey of milk from the stable to the finished wheel through videos, interactive exhibits, and guided tastings.
The days of June 13th and 14th offer institutional moments, guided tours, educational activities, and tastings, all with free admission. It's the ideal opportunity to visit Fontevivo, a small municipality in Emilia-Romagna also famous for its Cistercian Abbey, and to immerse yourself in the culture of the DOP cheese that symbolizes the entire region.
The two inaugural days officially open the new Parmigiano Reggiano Museum at Fontevivo, within the Corte Castellazzi complex. The program alternates institutional moments, guided tours of the exhibition, guided tastings, and educational workshops, guiding the public in discovering the DOP cheese that symbolizes the Parma region. Admission is free for both days.
