The city-wide Carnival of the Capitanata capital
The Foggia Carnival is the grand masquerade celebration of the capital of Capitanata, in the heart of northern Puglia. Rather than a single parade, it is a city-wide carnival: a schedule of events that spans about two weeks, reaching both the historic center and the outlying neighborhoods, involving schools, youth centers, associations, and families in a spirit of shared joy.
The format chosen by the Municipality of Foggia, through the Department of Culture and in collaboration with the Pro Loco Città di Foggia and local non-profit organizations, prioritizes participation and inclusion. Events are held in various locations: from central squares like Piazza Umberto Giordano to the green spaces of the Villa Comunale and Parco San Felice, as well as the hypogea of Piazza Purgatorio and neighborhood parishes. Each day offers something different, with a special focus on the youngest attendees.
The program alternates between masquerade parades, creative and artistic workshops, games, entertainment, tastings of traditional chiacchiere pastries, and live performances. There are also original offerings such as dance workshops, masked horseback rides, and environmental initiatives, alongside musical evenings that bring the carnival celebrations to a festive close.
The Foggia Carnival stands out for its popular and community-driven nature: it involves youth centers, volunteer associations, and local organizations, with activities designed for inclusion and social connection. It is an opportunity to experience the city in a new way, rediscovering the value of shared celebration and the carnival traditions of the Capitanata.
As the capital of the province of the same name in Puglia, Foggia is the main hub of the Tavoliere and Daunia regions. Its location makes it a convenient stop for those wishing to discover the Capitanata and its carnivals, which are among the most vibrant in Puglia, alongside those of Manfredonia and Lucera. The capital's carnival adds a strong sense of civic participation to this tradition.
The 2026 Foggia Carnival brought the Capitanata capital to life from February 10 to 21, with a schedule distributed across parishes, squares, parks, and cultural spaces. Promoted by the Municipality of Foggia with the Pro Loco and numerous associations, the program focused on participation, inclusion, and fun for all ages.
The highlight was Sunday, February 15, with simultaneous events across the city: the WWF sound bio-masquerade in the Villa Comunale, mask and pastry workshops at the Via Furore Amphitheater, the K-Pop Carnival at the Church of San Paolo, the «Carnival in the Saddle» horse parade at Parco San Felice, and the «Slow Carnival» at the Slow Park. The grand finale, on Saturday, February 21, brought the «Nostalgia 90» show to Piazza Umberto Giordano, preceded by young local rappers.
The 2026 Carnival featured numerous events from February 10 to 21, spread throughout the city:
By train: Foggia station is a major railway hub on the Adriatic line, well-connected to Bari, Naples, and the rest of Italy; the city center is within walking distance.
By car: Foggia is served by the A14 motorway (Foggia exit) and the state roads that cross the Tavoliere plain.
By plane: Foggia "Gino Lisa" Airport offers limited connections; the main reference airports are Bari-Palese and Naples.
Events take place in various locations across the city: we recommend checking the updated program on the official channels of the Municipality of Foggia and the Pro Loco. Most initiatives are free to attend.
