Two spring days filled with flowers, wild orchids, and the traditions of the Alta Langa
The Flower Festival is one of the most beloved events on the spring calendar in Castino, a small town in the province of Cuneo perched on the ridge that divides the Belbo and Bormida valleys, in the heart of the Piedmontese Alta Langa. For over thirty years, on the first weekend of May, the village has filled with colors, scents, and visitors to celebrate the awakening of nature and the traditions of a land of vineyards, chestnut groves, and forests.
Castino is an authentic panoramic balcony overlooking the Langa hills, renowned for its Dolcetto wine production and immersed in a landscape of rare beauty. The historic center houses the parish church of Santa Margherita with its exquisite Baroque pulpit, the church of the Vergine delle Grazie, and the ancient washhouse. The Flower Festival is the perfect opportunity to stroll through the village streets and breathe in the genuine atmosphere of a community that still lives in close contact with its land.
The heart of the event lies in the flower and plant stalls and nature-related initiatives. Among the most evocative offerings are the walks in search of wild orchids that bloom spontaneously on the trails of the Alta Langa, and guided excursions through the hills, such as the "Wonders of the Alta Langa" walk. There is no shortage of photography exhibitions, yoga and relaxation sessions in the open air, and interactive workshops designed for children.
The festival is also a journey through local flavors: the food stands offer ravioli al plin, served all day at the "Bottega dei Ravioli," and traditional friciule, savory fritters served under the Pro Loco tent. Stalls, a charity raffle, and a funfair complete the festive atmosphere.
Closing the celebrations on Sunday afternoon is the children's parade from the Alta Langa schools, accompanied by flag-wavers and musicians from Costigliole d'Asti, in a procession that weaves together color, music, and village spirit. Organized with passion by the Pro Loco of Castino, the Flower Festival is one of the most genuine village festivals in Piedmont, capable of uniting generations around the beauty of nature and the pride of Langa roots.
The 32nd edition of the Flower Festival brought the village of Castino, in the Alta Langa, to life over the weekend of May 2 and 3, 2026. Two days dedicated to flowers, nature, and Langa traditions, organized by the Pro Loco of Castino between the historic center, the church of Santa Margherita, and the surrounding hill trails.
The program alternated between culture, nature, gastronomy, and family moments, confirming the Flower Festival as one of the most cherished spring events in the region.
Castino can be reached by car from the A33 Asti-Cuneo motorway (Alba exit), continuing towards the Alta Langa, or from the A6 Turin-Savona motorway. The nearest train station is in Alba, about 30 km away, from where you can continue by bus or car.
The festival takes place on the first weekend of May, between Saturday and Sunday, in the historic center of Castino.
Access to the festival and events is free. Some activities (yoga, guided excursions) require booking by phone.
