The signature dish of Teramo cuisine celebrated in Floriano di Campli
In the heart of summer, the small village of Floriano di Campli, in the municipality of Campli (Province of Teramo, Abruzzo), becomes the stage for one of the most beloved food festivals in the Teramo area. The Timballo Teramano Festival pays homage to the signature dish of local cuisine: the timballo, an authentic king of tradition, prepared with overlapping layers of scrippelle (thin crepes made of flour, water, and eggs) stuffed with Abruzzo-style meat sauce, pallottine (small meatballs), and seasonal vegetables, all slow-baked in the oven.
For a full week, Piazza dell'Anfiteatro transforms into a grand feast of flavors. The food stalls open every evening at 7:30 PM and offer, in addition to the timballo, a range of Abruzzo specialties: arrosticini, sausage sandwiches, pork chops, Marchigiana beef steaks, and both classic and fried cheese-filled fritters. Takeaway is available, and three covered structures ensure the festival continues even in case of rain.
The culinary evenings are accompanied by a rich program of live music, with bands, tribute acts, and dance nights that bring the square to life until late. The event is organized by Pro Loco Floriano in collaboration with the Municipality of Campli and stands out for its environmental awareness: the festival is plastic-free, using fully biodegradable cutlery, plates, and cups. To encourage participation, a free shuttle service runs from the industrial area to the square.
Born as a village fair, the Timballo Teramano Festival has grown edition after edition to become a staple of the Abruzzo summer calendar, earning a mention in the Sagre d'Italia volume by Slow Food Editore. It is an ideal opportunity to discover the village of Floriano, savor authentic Teramo cuisine, and experience the warm hospitality of the local community.
Campli is one of the most characteristic villages in the Province of Teramo, known for its Holy Staircase (Scala Santa), its medieval historic center, and its porticos. The Floriano festival is part of the Campli Summer program, which brings music, culture, and tradition to all the hamlets of the municipality every summer, offering visitors another reason to explore this corner of Abruzzo.
The Timballo Teramano Festival returns to Floriano di Campli from July 28 to August 3, 2026, for its 13th edition, confirmed as part of the Campli Summer 2026 program. As per tradition, Piazza dell'Anfiteatro will host seven evenings dedicated to the Timballo Teramano, with oven-baked scrippelle and meatballs, accompanied by arrosticini, sausages, pork chops, Marchigiana beef steaks, and fritters. Stalls will open every evening at 7:30 PM, with takeaway options and a free shuttle service available. The plastic-free policy is also confirmed. The full musical program for the 2026 evenings will be published by the organizers in the weeks leading up to the event.
