The half marathon in the monumental heart of Florence
The Florence Half Marathon is one of the most beloved running events in Tuscany and a classic in the Italian spring racing calendar. Organized by UISP Firenze with the support of affiliated running clubs and over 500 volunteers, the event brings thousands of athletes every year to run the 21.097 km course through the historic center of Florence, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The course consists of two nearly identical laps in the heart of the city. The start is from Lungarno della Zecca Vecchia, near Via delle Casine, while the finish line is located in the spectacular Piazza Santa Croce. Along the route, runners pass by the monumental riverbanks, Piazza della Signoria, Ponte alla Carraia, the San Frediano district, the Oltrarno, and Piazza Pitti, in a sequence of views that make this race a unique experience.
Alongside the competitive 21.097 km race, the event offers a shorter non-competitive run, designed for those who want to enjoy the atmosphere without the pressure of the clock, and a Charity Walk to support social initiatives. It is this popular and inclusive vocation, typical of the UISP spirit, that makes the day a true celebration of sport and the city.
In recent years, the Florence Half Marathon has sold out with thousands of participants from dozens of nations, confirming its status as one of the premier half marathons in the Italian landscape. Services offered to athletes include pacer service, massage assistance, race pack and bib collection, refreshment points along the route, and a warm-up area.
Part of the rich running calendar of the Tuscan capital, which also hosts the famous Florence Marathon in autumn, the Florence Half Marathon is the spring appointment for road running enthusiasts. Running between the Duomo, the Baptistery, and the Renaissance palaces of the Florence province, in Tuscany, is an emotion that attracts participants from all over Italy and abroad.
The 42nd edition (XLII) of the Florence Half Marathon took place on Sunday, March 29, 2026, one week earlier than in 2025 to avoid coinciding with Easter. The event was once again managed by UISP Firenze, with the historic organizing staff and over 500 volunteers from affiliated running clubs.
The competitive 21.097 km race started at 9 AM from Lungarno della Zecca Vecchia, near Via delle Casine, and concluded in Piazza Santa Croce after two nearly identical laps in the historic center. The novelty of the year was the loop around the Duomo and the Baptistery, alongside the classic passages through Piazza della Signoria, the riverbanks, San Frediano, and the Oltrarno up to Piazza Pitti.
Simultaneously, the non-competitive run (approx. 10.5 km, following the first lap) and the charity Charity Walk took place. Services for athletes: pacers, race pack and bib collection, refreshment points along the route, warm-up area, and massage service.
Florence is accessible by train via the Santa Maria Novella and Firenze Campo di Marte stations, which are well connected to the historic center. By car, it is recommended to use park-and-ride facilities, as the center is subject to traffic closures during the race. The reference airport is Florence-Peretola.
Start from Lungarno della Zecca Vecchia (near Via delle Casine), finish in Piazza Santa Croce.
