Two days of free tours exploring the hidden treasures of Campi Bisenzio
On the weekend of November 7th and 8th, 2026, Campi Bisenzio hosts the final leg of the 30th national edition of Monumenti Aperti, the historic festival that annually opens hundreds of Italian heritage sites to the public free of charge. In this municipality within the Metropolitan City of Florence, Tuscany, monuments become accessible to everyone for two days, with stories shared by special guides trained specifically for the occasion.
Nestled in the plains between Florence and Prato along the Bisenzio River, Campi Bisenzio boasts Etruscan and Roman origins and is even mentioned by Dante in his Paradiso. The event invites you to discover a territory with a dual soul: on one hand, its medieval heart, and on the other, its 20th-century architectural landmarks. It is a precious opportunity to get to know a community that has shown great solidarity, especially following the 2023 floods.
Iconic locations open to the public include:
The hallmark of Monumenti Aperti is the direct involvement of schools and volunteers: tours are led by local students and volunteers who, after specific training, accompany visitors to illustrate the history and secrets of each site. The event also offers inclusive initiatives, such as the "Culture Without Barriers" project, and activities designed for families.
Monumenti Aperti is coordinated nationally by the Imago Mundi OdV association based in Cagliari, where the festival was founded thirty years ago. In Campi Bisenzio, it is organized with the support of the ACLI of Florence and the Municipality. The 2026 edition runs from April to November, involving hundreds of municipalities across numerous Italian regions: the Tuscan stop in Campi Bisenzio serves as its grand finale.
Access to all sites is completely free. Comfortable clothing and shoes are recommended for the tours; church visits may be suspended during religious services. For updates on schedules and the detailed program, the official Monumenti Aperti app is available.
