A journey through music and performing arts in the Baroque palaces and churches of Scicli
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Filinona Festival is a music and performing arts event held in Scicli, in the province of Ragusa, in the heart of the Val di Noto, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Created to extend the cultural season beyond the peak tourism months, the festival spreads its events between late summer and autumn, bringing concerts and shows to the most evocative spots in the historic center.
The Filinona Festival program weaves together different genres and languages: classical and Baroque music coexist with jazz, tango, and contemporary music, complemented by theater, dance, and performance art. Alongside European-renowned performers, the festival provides a platform for young talents from Sicilian conservatories, fostering a dialogue between established names and the new generation. The Luogocomune Orchestra, associated with the organizing body, is a recurring presence, with programs ranging from Bach to 20th-century repertoire.
The value of the Filinona Festival also lies in its choice of venues. Performances are held in some of Scicli's most representative monuments, including Palazzo Spadaro, the Church of Santa Teresa, the Church of the Consolazione, the Cine-teatro Italia, Villa Penna, and Palazzo Mormino. The audience is invited on an itinerary that combines listening with the discovery of the city's late Baroque architectural heritage.
The Filinona Festival is a founding member of the UNESCO Network of Cultural Festivals of the late Baroque towns of the Val di Noto, a network bringing together fifteen festivals in the Iblean territory dedicated to music, literature, visual arts, theater, and photography. The initiative, promoted within the South East Tourist District, aims to coordinate and enhance the cultural events that animate these World Heritage sites.
The festival is promoted by the Luogocomune Cultural Association with the patronage of the Ministry of Culture, the Sicilian Region, and the Municipality of Scicli. The event stands as one of the most prestigious appointments in the Iblean cultural calendar, successfully combining high artistic quality with local promotion.
