Two evenings in Irpinia featuring fig tastings, Taurasi wines, and major free concerts in Piazza del Santuario
The Fig Festival is the most anticipated summer event in San Mango sul Calore, a small town in Irpinia, in the province of Avellino, in the heart of inland Campania. The event was created to celebrate the fig, a fruit that finds particularly favorable soil and climate in this corner of the Calore Valley and has become the true emblem of the town, alongside other local food and wine excellence.
This is not a commercial fair or a large-scale festival: it is a community-driven village feast that opens its squares in mid-July to visitors from across Irpinia and the Naples area. The atmosphere is that of a genuine Southern Italian sagra, where the local product serves as a pretext to showcase the region and spend two evenings together.
The heart of the festival is Piazza del Santuario, where food stalls open every evening starting at 7:30 PM. The organizers set up a true village of taste where the fig is the absolute star, accompanied by specialties of Irpinian cuisine.
Alongside the gastronomy, the Fig Festival has built its reputation on music: each edition brings well-known names from the Italian and Neapolitan scene to the stage, with completely free concerts followed by DJ sets that extend the evening. It is a winning formula: the square fills up, the audience sings along, and the festival becomes an appointment awaited far beyond the municipal borders.
The 2026 edition took place on Friday, July 17th and Saturday, July 18th, once again in Piazza del Santuario with stalls opening at 7:30 PM. Friday's festivities were opened by a concert from the Roman pop duo Zero Assoluto, followed by a DJ set by DJ Vers. Saturday featured Enzo Gragnaniello, one of the most poetic voices of Neapolitan song, Tommaso Primo, and the Mixed by Erry show, before the final DJ set. Free admission on both evenings.
The event is promoted by the Municipality of San Mango sul Calore together with the Pro Loco, the Confraternita di Misericordia, and the Festival Committee, with the stated goal of "promoting the local area's unique features and fostering social gathering." The event is also featured on the Sistema Irpinia tourism portal of the Province of Avellino and was held under the patronage of the Campania Region.
Visitors to the Fig Festival will find the typical atmosphere of an Irpinian summer evening: mild temperatures at night, a village of a few hundred inhabitants coming to life, families, groups of friends, and a square that becomes the town's living room. It is advisable to arrive early, both to find parking in the streets around the center and to enjoy the stalls before the concerts begin. It is an event suitable for those traveling with children, thanks to the free admission and open-air spaces.
The festival is an excellent opportunity to discover the rest of the Calore Valley: we are just a few kilometers from the Taurasi vineyards and the wine-producing villages of eastern Irpinia, an ideal itinerary for a weekend of food, wine, and hilly landscapes.
For the 2026 edition, the Municipality of San Mango sul Calore once again chose the formula of two consecutive evenings in mid-July, with Piazza del Santuario transformed into a village of taste. The stalls opened at 7:30 PM on both evenings, featuring fig tastings, pairings with prestigious local wines, and Irpinian specialties.
The free musical lineup offered two very different evenings: the pop of Zero Assoluto on Friday, and the Neapolitan singer-songwriter style of Enzo Gragnaniello and Tommaso Primo on Saturday, with the addition of the Mixed by Erry show and DJ sets by DJ Vers to close both nights.
The event was organized by the Municipal Administration together with the Pro Loco, the Confraternita di Misericordia of San Mango sul Calore, and the Festival Committee, with the aim of promoting the local area's unique features and fostering social gathering.
All events took place in Piazza del Santuario, with free admission.
