The spring festival of the village of Billerio
In Friulian, roncs are the terraced lands carved out of the hillside, a symbol of land worked with effort and love. This is the origin of the name of the Fieste dai Roncs di Biliris, the spring festival that every year, between April 25th and the first days of May, enlivens Billerio, a tiny hamlet of Magnano in Riviera, in the hilly area of the province of Udine.
It's one of those village festivals that manage to bring together generations and styles: from live music and evening tribute bands, from Renato Ferro's accordion to dancing evenings, to the wild Color Roncs run, the colorful race that winds through the village. There's also a look at collective memory: in a region marked by the 1976 earthquake, the photographic exhibition "50 Years of Memory and Rebirth" recounts half a century of Friulian renaissance.
The program unfolds over several days and weekends, alternating sporting events (the dog walk, the hike through the hills), musical evenings with tribute bands and concerts, and moments of pure fun. The common thread remains the village's conviviality, with gastronomic stands open for lunch and dinner.
Friulian tradition reigns in the kitchen: frico (the cheese and potato omelet, a symbol of Carnia and all of Friuli), grilled meats, polenta, and the simple flavors of the hills. A cuisine that, like the festival, speaks of roots.
Magnano in Riviera is a municipality in the Friulian foothills in the province of Udine, overlooking the plain and not far from the Tagliamento River. Its hamlets, including Billerio, preserve the spirit of hillside villages, where village festivals remain the most authentic way to come together and show visitors a Friuli made of land, work, and hospitality.
The 2026 festival spans several days between late April and early May, with a rich calendar of music, sports, and gastronomy. Opening on April 25th with the dog walk and the photographic exhibition dedicated to the fiftieth anniversary of the 1976 earthquake.
